Oh, the reading I would have done at night as a youth if they'd invented the ipod touch and kindle app for iphone.
I've never owned a booklight that lasted very long, pre-LED technology. But put this thing in night mode, white text on black, and it makes for very pleasant night reading. Making up for lost time now...

I haven't had one last very long, battery-wise, post-LED technology either.
Nexis also makes for a good nighttime kindle reader. My daughter's ipod is a little too small for my taste although she also uses it to read books.

The Romance of the 3 Kingdoms- a great Chinese classic based on historical events..
The Stranger by Albert Camus- classic existential work.
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya- a lighthearted novel that embraces the virtues of "being different"
4 Hour Work Week- best book on Time Management I've ever read
