a new "tossing out" thread came up today and reminded me i wanted to give a review..
after reading this thread back in march i decided to give xero shoes a try,

cons-
-take great care and follow instructions on hole punching if using the build your own model, a mistake could render them uncomfortable.
-lacing is not the easy quick thing you would imagine it to be, i tried to replicate one of the patterns "above basic" but still in the "simple" category and it took multiple attempts and a lot of re-tying/adjusting to get it right (matching) and comfortable/tight, i found the proses more frustrating than it should have been.
- it took longer than advertised to get used to/flatten the knot under toes

pros
-good price for a shoe that should last near forever
-surprisingly comfortable
-look and feel better than toe shoes
-feels like being bare foot 

all in all i would give them a good review..

Yeah, The lacing is key and it does take some time to dial it in. Once they are laced however you rarely ever have to adjust again, you just slip them on and off.

Also, between the 4mm and 6mm, i like the thinner model much better. They are significantly lighter and seem to hug the foot better.

I wear mine everyday and only put a pair of shoes on if absolutely necessary. My foot strength and health has improved dramatically, but it took me nearly a year to get there. If you are transitioning to barefoot, go sloooooowwww. You feet have been severely weakened by the shoe foot casts and injury could result if you push it. I wouldnt even think of running barefoot until i had walked for nearly a year and then i would still ease into it.

I recommend these series of videos to determine if barefoot is right for you. They are pretty fair I think as this isnt for everyone. However, in my case shoes gave me a lot of pain and barefoot doesnt....

i went with the 4 mm as well, it has a very nice bare foot feel, i am not a runner, i bought them for the bare foot feel and the slip on off ease. i probably spend more time bare foot than with shoes but most of it indoors, its kinda nice to feel  the ground when outdoors again even if it is all pavement and city sidewalk...

Just a quick update.  I've spent the last month in Tlaquepaque, a great little community outside of Guadalajara, MX.

I quickly realized that the barefoot/sock combo was unsustainable and that it blocked every social interaction.  The world is not Portland OR.

I've gone back to wearing the moccasins while out of the apartment and people will now comfortably engage and talk with me.

Mexico: we're not in Portland anymore.

You guys need to pick up some JJ Casuals.
