No doubt they are dependent on the Middle East at the moment, as is a lot of the world. But....

They produce 27% domestically. They source a sizeable amount from Malaysia and Brazil. I would imagine Russia is an option. Canada has been talking about getting cozier with China?

The middle east provides around 25% of daily barrels of oil. Many producers suppress production - have capacity to supply more especially if/when the price is high. If the Strait was closed, such as due to Iran mining the narrow (difficult to defend) Strait then both the US and Russia could do very well out of higher prices/increased supply. I wonder if Trump is hoping for Iran to hit infrastructure and mine the Strait - such that he might justify striking Irans infrastructure (knock out water/electricity/oil revenues) and redirect supply from upgraded Saudi land based pipes (perhaps up through Jordan and into the Mediterranean - and have Iran pretty much back in the dark ages where a internal revolution might replace the existing regime. What might still flow out of the middle east combined with others (US/Russia etc.) pumping more and the global deficit might be down at <10% type levels, a mild/modest impact upon the global economy. Given the mid-terms and perhaps a broad/major strike across Iran (water/electricity/oil) might occur within the next couple of weeks, perhaps immediately following a 'good excuse' such as a misplaced drone strike or a ship in the Strait being destroyed by a mine (or even the manufacture of such a incident). Mines in the Strait would also serve as a barrier for ships being permitted through by Iran towards 'friends of Iran' destinations (China/India).

Russia is aiding Iran, so could supply the missiles and warheads. If a unintercepted warhead did approach the UK that could initiate its own response launch as the likes of Russian Soviet 2's split on approach to individually nuke multiple cities (11 separate warheads IIRC). Assured mutual (global) destruction, part of which includes plagues upon the earth (vertically launched into the upper atmosphere). The 1960's films with nuclear launch cases carried around by leaders are nowadays just ping devices (absence of responses initiate a launch).
