Hal, in many US states, the citizens and local authorities would have no part of regs like Victoria's. There would be widespread civil disobedience. Other, liberal states would probably go along but I think there would still be a lot of civil disobedience.
To illustrate, there have been many localities where the county prosecutor announced that no one will be prosecuted for a mask violation or the like.
For the life of me I cannot understand regs that require masks outdoors, prohibit beach-going, and such. What do they think they are accomplishing? Do they think people are catching Covid outdoors? Or do they just think that total control will produce better compliance?
As to the original question, no I'm not okay with an endless version of this. Society should open up, and let each of us decide our own risk management.
I guess to make my original question more clear, how long is too long? For example, Dallas County had 1 Covid death yesterday. 1. Tarrant County (Fort Worth) had zero. What is the endgame right now? What determines when things can go back to normal? If we have moved from deaths to cases, how many cases will ever be low enough?
For those people who claim these are all first world problems: really isn't anything you complain about during the day a first world problem? Why does that mean you should accept it? I should accept any injustice in life because I could be living in abject poverty in another country so this alternative is better as is?
I do not agree with the theory there would be a lot disobedience here. Most people I see around here are complying with whatever they are told. And if they don't they will punished. On Sat at the SMU college football game here the police threw out the entire student section for not distancing and wearing masks. I have seen nobody really stand up for them. Most people here have said that was the correct thing to do. And this is supposedly a very Red State. I see very little disobedience.

+1. Different people have different priorities, which is why freedom is so important. A problem that appears to be a molehill to one person can be a mountain for someone else.
If I were in your shoes, with a special-needs son, I'd have a tough decision to make. Moving to a new place is always an option, albeit usually a difficult and stressful one.
Having just recently become a father a few months ago, I'm starting to see first-hand how when you're a parent, your life shifts dramatically and your child's well-being becomes your top priority.

I see very little disobedience.
As i stated a while ago in another this seemed similar to school systems (that I grew up in) in the 50s and 60s. Quite repressive towards students with full obedience. I also believe that that might be the same time period that Trump might consider when "America Was Great". Not if you were one of those repressed students in all those schools throughout the country!

The sheeple have demonstrated to every would-be oppressor in the universe that the latter need only declare their "authority" and the entire population will fall in line. Who thought it would ever be so easy? The American Communist Party must be bashing its collective head against the wall over the fact that they spent the last 70 years plotting and scheming incremental changes--or at worst, a revolution--when all they had to do was to declare that they were in charge.
