2011 for me. Fires in Birmingham, UK.
But hey, Libertarian666 was virtually all gold and doing ok.
Yes, and I still am.

Sold some gold +16% gain and bought SCV yesterday to rebalance. IAU outperformed SCV by .02% but they both went up over 1%

Drool...

Just wanted to add I am at peace with the decision to sell some gold. I probably would have held if not in an IRA to avoid taxes. Still 26% in PP and 7.5% overall.

Shouldn't ever worry about taking a gain!

Happy Labor Day

Finally happened last week! I won't be able to trade for a few weeks. Hope things don't get too crazy...unless it's crazy up of course.

Budd: peace of mind is priceless. I look forward to selling my worst etfs at breakeven someday.

I have to laugh at Gold today.
Who cares that NK fired another missile over Japan.
Move along, nothing to see here...
On your way out, pick up some stocks as they're sure to go higher.
I bet my portfolio we close above 2500 on S&P.

I think you should go with a Bogleheads portfolio. Preferably 200% long in stocks, since they always go up!

(Note: :P)

S&P 500 2500.23

That's all I need to know this market is fixed.
I don't care, cleaning up until the music stops.

Years 2000 to 2010: S&P 500 merely broke even. For a decade, many a Budd wished she or he had bought something other than srocks.

I'm not complaining at all DS and recall that period quite well although I had little invested until 2008.

PP is doing great on the year and I have the 65//35 BH portfolio with 50% international. VWILX, my main holding is up almost 40% YTD.

Everything is pretty much positive YTD, so its easy to feel like a genius...
I know myself enough to keep the money I can't afford to lose in the PP and the balance in equities.
Sometimes being aggressive gets the job done and other times being defensive gets the job done.
Its a win, win :-)

Getting closer.

Just imagine the gnashing of teeth if/when the S&P500 has the kind of gyrations gold has. It would be the lead story on the news every night.

Just a short note on how the PP has helped me cope with my gold to the moon addiction...

I continue to read mostly gold positive blogs, and was so taken by the recent run up that I was considering buying a few options on GLD and SLV in the "variable" part of my portfolio.

This is WHY I DON'T have a variable part of my portfolio. I'd be completely underwater on those options today.

Instead, while I am upset at how fast these gains are evaporating (what's new?!), the stock portion mutes the fall.

Gold just stirs up too much emotion for me. Do the exact opposite of what you think you should do still holds for me, almost all the time.

I agree, especially with the last line. Move over Lao Tzu and make room for the wisdom of George Costanza. Do the opposite!

I feel the same way. It's beautiful how they all seem to mute each other's declines.

It does for almost everyone. That's why we can't trust our emotions.

"Mute" is the operative word... both in declines and advances... The HBPP is the Monroe shock absorber of portfolio strategies...

DO you think it will get there ($1260). Or are you almost close enough to pull the trigger?

I continue to sell and will not allow myself to chase gold any longer.

I deleted the orders. I have a habit of placing them for amusement, then cancelling.

I am at my strategic allocation for gold which is Desert Portfolio level, 10%. I don't really need more.
