Re: Silicon Valley Bank Failure
Check out this graphic. It lines up with the trickle of (mostly un-hyped) articles I'm seeing saying stuff like "the banking failures aren't over" and "this one will be worse than 2008." But then again, this doom stuff always gets me all hot and bothered.

You there, Ephialtes. May you live forever.
Re: Silicon Valley Bank Failure
It may be an apples and orange comparison because 2008 was a completely different set of conditions. The worst of it was not concentrated in the FDIC institutions. The biggest failures in 2008 were investment banks. There is a note on the graphic that says they are excluded.
Lehman Brothers alone was more than $600B. Bear Stearns was about $400B.
It's a valid point that the three recent failures are not insignificant, but the graphic is still misleading.

Re: Silicon Valley Bank Failure
I’ve been reading about banks a lot in the ‘Financial Times.’ (Just wantd to be a policeman or a fireman when I was five, but there we are). It’s a roller coaster. Like today, there’s a headline on the front page, “US banking shrugs off turmoil to post record haul.”
