I am not from Europe, So I don't know if the Daily Star is a local Rag like the Washington Post or N.Y. Times.

I knew this place would fact check that article.

Does seem like the Ebola response info in the article was accurate -- https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/65/su/su6503a3.htm

(But wrong on how infectious)

And I think the assertion that Trump administration wasn't proactive and played down the threat is accurate.

But as an article, yeah, crap.

It's like they used Trump's fact checker... :)

That, or something like it, will be necessary here too.

The coolest part of that:
Administering the vaccine

In order to increase potency, the vaccine would be administered using a novel approach called a microneedle array.
The microneedle array, which looks like a patch about the size of a fingertip, contains 400 tiny needles made out of sugar and pieces of the spike protein.
The patch goes on like a Band-Aid. The needles dissolve into the skin, where the immune reaction is strongest.

This coming week is the week when the absolute numbers really start getting crazy if we don't have a slowdown in trend. I've been tracking the U.S. cases closely here: https://www.bing.com/covid/local/unitedstates

We keep doubling cases here every 5 days like clockwork. We just crossed 300k cases today. Assuming the trend of doubling every 5 days holds... that puts us at 600k cases by this coming Thurs. and in the ballpark of 1 mil cases by next weekend here in the U.S. alone. *shudders*

As the cases increase exponentially, it's becoming all the more clear that the vast majority of folks who have serious complications have co-morbidities. In the Seattle study, for which the data cut-off was 3/23, a full 50% had Type 2 diabetes.

So is this a public health emergency or a stepped-up day of reckoning?

Many (most?) type 2 diabetics are on Lisinopril, an ACE inhibitor. There is somewhat strong evidence that those drugs greatly open the door to CV. Maybe that is the reason that diabetics are being hit so hard.

I'm surprised how low Washington is given that it was not first.

Nice to see my home state (CA) doing comparatively well, especially if you go per-capital.

(Although Los Angeles may pickup as they locked down later than the bay area).

I don't know how helpful those mortality projections are. It depends a lot on where the virus got started. Washington started with a big cluster in a nursing home, and that's why their subsequent curve is lower in comparison. Germany has a very low mortality rate also, because their infections started in a group of young healthy people (skiers returning from northern Italy). Also note, deaths tend to lag cases because, well, the process of taking someone off a vent to let them go is not fast, because you need the family's permission which generally takes weeks. (It might start getting faster soon though...)

I've been tracking NYC cases, and it looks to me like there have been distinct waves with sudden increases in cases, followed by gradual reductions. I said earlier that I had seen two waves, and hoped there wouldn't be a third. Unfortunately...it looks like there is a third wave. This one is mostly in undocumented/minority and Orthodox Jewish populations, and mainly in the outer boroughs. Not coincidentally, these are exactly the groups that have been ignoring the social distancing & isolation guidelines.

Here's my chart of new daily cases...the ups and downs are probably because the times that the numbers were reported varied a lot, but you can see the trends.
