I'm actually a fan of various "little luxuries" like that, provided they're not so frequent that they break the bank.
I think about it in terms of the "80/20 rule" -- 80% of your monthly expenses come from 20% of your transactions. If you control costs on that top 20% (things like mortgage/rent and transportation), you can afford the occasional splurge in the other 80% without being a financial mess.
Nice numerical rule. I'll be making a note of that one!
Pareto Principle. Not to be confused with the Peter Principle. Vinny, if you have questions, ask dualstow.

I've always known of it as Pareto's Law and been aware of it since 1979. First time I've seen it referred to as Pareto's Principle, though, with some research I see now that Pareto Principle is seemingly now the more accepted term.

I am going to Starbucks today and spending $6 on a pumpkin spice latte.
Try and stop me.
Don't know what it is like in Canada but Americans seem to spend tons of money on both their houses and their vehicles, which, of course consumes a lot of resources. I've never done either which then allows plenty left over for investing and for anything else I want to buy.

There's a new coffee shop that opened up in my town that I'm going to go test out. They did a good job fixing up an abandonded building, set up nice sidewalk tables, etc. I've noticed a lot more young adults around in the past few months. I wondered if they were boomeranging back home when they lost their jobs and couldn't pay rent because of the lockdowns, but maybe they'll stick around.
It's easy to afford coffee here since housing is so cheap and nobody forces you to buy expensive cars.

I'm currently googling how one might make pumpkin spice lattes at home.

I'm currently googling "How to stage an intervention".

Phew, no follow up post from Smithers about how he's looking for a vein for his concoction.
The intervention seems to have worked, and this crisis has bean squashed.

You saved him. He's in the custody of the Pumpkin Police now. No more Pumpkin Latte's for Smithy....

4 bucks for a few dozen cups worth of flavouring to my at home coffee. As good as the "real thing" from Starbucks? No. But good enough and definitely a better value s̶t̶o̶c̶k̶ coffee.

Smithers, here's my most recent morning go-to:
1 scoop whey (ON double chocolate)
1 heaping spoon of instant coffee (Aldi)
1 Splenda
1 TBL cream
Heat up the water maybe half as long as you usually would for a piping hot mug of coffee, or else the whey will clot up and be gross. This will be a lukewarm mug of delicious cafe mocha except that it has protein so your muscles don't fall off.

Noted and will try. I have that exact same flavour of protein powder lol.

Reminds me of Richard Hammond's story about disappointing a little boy at the airport when he had to admit he wasn't Iron Man.

Still no contact with Kerry. Super proud of myself. I also started going to the gym again!
A little setback: my brain, trying to sabotage me as usual, has been giving me dreams about her the past few nights. Grrrrr. Been waking up feeling kind of melancholy in the mornings.
I am doubling down on the vocal lessons lately. I will share some videos of my singing adventures soon.

Finally pulled the trigger on minoxidil as I found a cheap source for it here in Canada. This along with my dutasteride regimen and I should be good for life I figure.
The window to restore or maintain hair follicles really starts to close after just a couple years of noticing hair loss from what I understand. I figure it's worth a shot. The dutasteride has been great at halting further progress (and even a bit of recovery), but full restoration has been elusive. We'll see what this yields.

Sure thing! The political discussions are fun to read and sometimes participate in, but once in a while we need a reminder that we're all human beings and laughing babies are ridiculously cute.
