Actually that's quite a reasonable definition of "early retirement". Anyway, that's what I meant. We will definitely want to know when you hit that point!Pointedstick wrote: And honestly, I'm not planning to retire. If anything I'm hoping my next venture will be very lucrative... There must be a term for financial independence + willfully not retiring. If not, we should coin one.

It's called "semi-retired". And there's a book about it with spreadsheets to help you along. http://www.amazon.com/Work-Less-Live-Mo ... 413307051/dualstow wrote: There must be a term for financial independence + willfully not retiring. If not, we should coin one.

I'm curious if you're shooting to replace your basic expenses, or basic expenses + seed funding for a venture? For example, at some point you might want to rent some space or hire an employee. It seems like there would always be a desire to tap your funds to invest in yourself rather than sell equity. Or maybe you plan to grow slowly enough that revenue always covers all expenses.Pointedstick wrote: And honestly, I'm not planning to retire. That's what I did last time, and while it worked (I took on no debt, was profitable in a week, and stayed that way until I shut down), I didn't grow fast enough. I anticipate that fundraising of some type will be involved next time.dragoncar wrote: Or maybe you plan to grow slowly enough that revenue always covers all expenses.
Human behavior is economic behavior. The particulars may vary, but competition for limited resources remains a constant.
