Good analogy.  This also illustrates how far right the Republican party has become.  I mean, Ronald Reagan himself could not be elected in the current primary system.  He was pro-union and raised taxes!  When the current centrist Democrat president has policies similar to Nixon, that shows you how far off balance we are.

The rhetoric about socialism is pretty alarmist as well.  No, Obama is not the gateway drug to socialism.  (Read that on a billboard in my town)

Reagan, pro-union?? What about that little matter w/ the air traffic controllers? And didn't Reagan make statements that some unions were essentially communist-inflitrated (like his own screen actors guild)?

As I recall, my dad's carpenters magazine essentially thought Reagan was the devil incarnate. I was young, so my understanding may be faulty.

Are we talking about the same person?

Obama reminds me a bit of a Democratic version of Richard Nixon.

- Both were highly intelligent individuals who had trouble governing effectively.
Where is the evidence of this? My view is that this is mythology created by the media, who is sympathetic to his story and ideology.
- Both were in office during a period of deep disillusionment with the direction of the U.S., and yet seemed not to understand the depth of this feeling or its roots.
Barry understands the deep disillusionment...he uses it to propel himself into the white house, using class envy, auction politics among other nefarious political moves.
- Both had the opposite party in control of Congress for much/all of their terms, and had trouble working effectively with Congress on much of anything.
Barry also has difficulty working w/ his own party. For example, his own party would not vote for his budget.

Obama is 1/3rd Nixon, 1/3rd Carter and 1/3rd Clinton!
