Out of 107, most (if not all) of the Baltic Countries are in the top 15, South Korea is #2, Japan is #7, Switzerland is #17, Finland is #19, Sweden #30, the USA is #41.gizmo_rat wrote: You can't help look at that table and wonder why mens reported suicide rate is 3 or 4 times higher than womens.
I think lack of Vitamin D (sunshine) is probably a stronger factor than statism, but there looks to me like more or less a trend of more statist countries having higher suicide rates. Japan is explainable, but what about South Korea? SK doesn't strike me as being either Japan-like or lacking in sunshine. Perhaps its the continual threat of a North Korean nuclear holocaust?
I guess one way to prove it for sure would be to look at the suicide rates in the former Soviet Union. By any standard, there would have been no limit to the amount of problems to occupy the brain over there. I would expect the rates to be low if the meme is at all true.
