I should have mentioned that I have to use a small brush (e.g. an old toothbrush) after vacuuming the "bulk dust" to remove the "stuck on dust"; then vacuum again. I also vacuum the discharge opening chute from the bottom where the grinds go into the catch container. I use a Shark handheld vacuum with the long narrow nozzle attachment. Good luck!

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
I wish I could fit even a pipe cleaner in the workings that are left after I remove the actual blades-er, burrs.
I ran it this morning and the beans are disappearing from the hopper, but it takes forever to produce a pot of coffee
Maybe the burrs are just worn out. This thing is quite old.
I was hoping it could hold on until I replace the coffeemaker, because I want to get a combo that grinds directly into the coffeemaker.

I recently read that Scythians drank from their enemies’ skulls.
I believe Kriegsspiel once wrote that his ancestors did the same.
Maybe he’s Scythian.

Now I know why your coffee is taking so long. You must be using a pour over into a skull.

Vinny, I see* you’re considering buying a Macbook Air.
Didn’t see that coming.
I’ll be curious to see if you like it.
Don’t know what I’d do without my ipad mini + Logitech keyboard.

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
Yes. That is a shocking development.
I've been in intense communication who is 100% pro Mac / 100% anti-Windows. So I've become intrigued.
However, the only use I'd have for it is using it when I'm outside. It'd never pre-empt me doing serious work on this far more powerful, far more elaborate Windows based system.
Within a day I reached a point where I decided exactly what I would buy.
A Macbook Air. 256GB SSD. 16 GB RAM. M3 CPU.
Also, I have this thing wherein Apple refurbished is better than Apple new plus it's at least 15% cheaper.
That is my reasoning when I bought my first iPad (1) in 2012. Bought it refurbished.
It came with new screen and battery. Delivered in a box that made it look like any other new one.
My belief is that new ones only get spot checked while refurbished each get individually checked. Still using that iPad 13 years later with good battery life.
So, with the above Macbook Air specs I had a price of $930 (before taxes).
But have not bought it since I'm not spending too much time outdoors now.
For the last few years I've been using my Amazon Fire when I am outside to participate in forums. Would be much easier on a computer having a real full sized keyboard.
I have many, many iPads (with one keyboard) plus two iPad mini's. Not easy to use one of those with a keyboard in your lap. A notebook / laptop would by definition.
So buying Mac computer would be a pure luxury right now for something that might not get all that use.
But I love all things computer so it'd be interesting to finally get the whole MacOS experience.
This person has many times told me the whole superiority of all things Mac to Windows. Both operating systems and hardware. How MacOS is based upon Unix while Windows is not.

I like e-ink best in the sunlight, but I can’t find an e-ink tablet that I’m willing to buy. Kindles are great, but not interactive.
Wouldn’t want to deprive you of the Apple experience (I’m a fan) especially since you’re in your eighth decade, but if it’s not going to get much use, why not just put Linux on an old laptop? Or Chrome OS Flex?

I use all for reading. Hard cover. Paper back. This computer. iPad. iPad mini. Kindles of all kinds. Amazon Fire. Phone.dualstow wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 8:34 pm I like e-ink best in the sunlight, but I can’t find an e-ink tablet that I’m willing to buy. Kindles are great, but not interactive.

I have so detested laptops in the past that I do NOT have an old one. Except for this mini that I think is stuck on XP.

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
I just bought another old/used one and had it sent to my parents’ so that I can use it when I visit.
Can’t wait to wipe Windows off it.

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
What are the specs, how old, cost?
I WILL be buying that refurbished Mac when the weather improves and can be outside with it. Determined another use for it. To send to the local newspaper direct from the field reports of our softball game results so don't have to hurry home to meet their deadline.
I'm sure once I have it I will think of more uses for it.
Said I had no use for an iPod and iPad and Kindle and so on.

Checking to see if anyone’s wigging out on Bogleheads
yep.
I think the worriers are well in the minority but I like to see the political complaints just before those threads get shut down.
