i own ibit and befor ibit i owned gbtc but i dont consider it part of any portfolio..

it dos not reliably react to anything except greed and fear .

so it sits alone .

i commit no more than 1% of total liquid assets including cash to it .

so its a nice sum but is low on the food chain as to what gets committed to it

What can 1% mean in your portfolio? The possibilities that the holding can increase in value by a tremendous percentage?

1% is tens of thousands of dollars invested in bitcoin.

gold is a 5% position overall and is 6 figures

so they are enough

But even if it increased by 20% is that going to have an impact on your overall portfolio?

no , but it all goes in to the pile ….same as my year end fun trading …it can bring in 20-30k a year in just small hit and runs

things like gold and bitcoin i trade in and out all year so it’s a lot of wash and repeat …..so it doesn’t have to do much but cycle each time

last year saw over 600k in gains and about 10% of that were my hit and runs that are my fun trading .

don’t forget even a 5% position like gold represents over 200k in it so the moves are substantial in dollars added

Yes. Always need to take into account both the %'s and the absolute dollars.

You are telling us you have about $4 million.

Therefor 1% would be $40,000.

If that is your bitcoin and all else stayed flat but bitcoin doubled ... does your life change that now you have $4.04 million? It could have also halved, of course. Seems like it needs to be evaluated like any other asset / investment in terms of what you are trying to accomplish with it, the potential for reward with the accompanying risk, how much you need or don't need a return from it, and so on.

Is not about my life changing

It’s about all these fun trades give us free cash flow to basically do things we likely wouldn’t do

Two years ago we bought a high end luxury car for more then I ever spent on a car

Last year my wife and I spent 35k on upgrading all our camera gear

It’s basically fun money and it all adds up over a year

I like winning , big or small

Heck I can easily be a dirty lil market timer left unchecked

Many would argue that with already having $4 million you could have already done all of those.

Put it this way. If instead of having the gains that you did with those fun trades .... you instead had equivalent losses .... would that have led to you cutting back on other purchases in any way? More essential life purchases?

I believe his reference to that trading is for a small, small portion of his total portfolio. The VP of his portfolio? Not being done with the great majority of his portfolio.

I've decided that I'm likely to actually go to London to attend convocation in person and stay as a traveller for a while. So I've liquidated several thousand more MicroStrategy to fund the trip at pretty big gains (averaging between 33% to 40%).

Oh, shoot, I forgot I only told dualstow via DM.

It's for my graduate degree at University of London! I decided not to go the Harvard route for my degree, as it would have been 3x more expensive. Untenable :(

Hi 👋🏻

Can you explain your PP ?

What type of trading do you do? Reading the chart 📈?

I tried and studied 20+ years of technical analysis 🧐 and although it appears fun 🤩 to make money 💴 day trading it is sooooooo difficult 😞

Let me know more about your way of investing.

i don’t use the pp but i do use a few different leveraged risk parity portfolios to see how they do as they seem to offer a much better risk vs reward then conventional investing

the carolina reaper

20% upro

13% tyd.

67% dbmf

the OPTRA portfolio

16% UPRO;

24% AVGV;

24% GOVZ;

18% GLDM;

18% DBMF.

then i have my conventional investing . vti , berkshire , ibit and a few other things .

because so much less money has to be committed to these leveraged models it has decreased risk a lot .

in fact. the reaper did very well in 2022 when every conventional portfolio crapped the bed
