Hehe she uses what was a real beast of a Windows machine when it was new. It's one of those workstation-class machines made by Dell for her architecture work. Core i7, 32GB of RAM, Nvidia Quadro GPU (forget the model), and a few terabytes of storage. Even by today's standards it's fairly beefy, but it's actually like an 8-year old machine.

Not with the absolute latest chips, but this video made by Max Tech compares multitasking and heavy workloads on Apple silicon in 16GB vs 32GB RAM configurations.
TLDW: While the jump from 8GB to 16GB is massive, the jump from 16GB to 32GB is almost imperceptible.

Definitely makes me feel better about my new 16GB machine haha.
You can equip MacBook Airs with up to 24GB these days, but you have to wait like 2 weeks for them to build it and ship it as a custom order.

I've heard interviews with him. He's somewhat annoying for me.

How much did Apple charge them to upgrade to 2 bytes?

Smithers, you said you were now locked in to your new MacBook Air. That's better than Adam and Eve .... they got locked out. ;-)

I’m trying and failing to come up with a joke about sacrificial RAM…

Genesis 22:13-14:
And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
Takes an act of God to get more RAM it sounds like.

I've been using this app called AlDente to control my battery charging - particularly so that the battery doesn't sit at 100% for extended periods of time when plugged into the wall.

I currently have my charge limit set to 80%. When I know I'm going to need the battery for a long session I just top up the charge to 100%.

I googled it. Says

To see apps running in the background, go to Settings > System > Developer options > Running services.

Thanks for this.
This has also been a source of frustration to me, also with a Moto phone and far more of a computer person than a phone person.
That is a long way to get at a simple answer!
I don't even know how to shut off my Music Player so I just restart my phone when I'm done using it. I assume on a restart nothing is running like that or any other services you need to start?

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
A lot of actions are done with swiping these days and I sometimes don’t get it on the first try.
I’m on an phone running Android 14 aka ‘Upside Down Cake’.
If I swipe from the bottom of the screen, that takes me to a bunch of apps that are open or at least in recent history and probably still running in the background.
↳ you don’t have to be on your home screen when you do this, but if you’re not good at swiping, it may help.
Once you have these apps showing, you can drag your finger left and right to see what’s there. If you want to close something, like your music player, put your index finger on it and without letting go, quickly swipe up to close it. Then continue to gently drag right or left, skipping the apps you want to leave open.
(I only shut my phone down in movie theatres, since mine doesn’t have that nifty physical AUDIO_OFF switch that iphones sport. ‘Course, I don’t go to movie theaters anymore, anyway. Mine closed).

The trick is that with phones, that doesn't really tell you what's actually running. The list of "running apps" there is a set of screenshots. It's certainly possible that some or all of them have actually been suspended in the background.
