Who, these truckers?
I think that, as boglerdude said above, there are always going to be crazies within a “normal” protest, for lack of a better word, once it gets large enough. Even non-protest gatherings, say a post-football-game celebration, brings people who jump on top of cars and dent them in my town.
Speak up, Smithers.
I didn’t. Not explicitly. I just had (wrongly) come to the conclusion from your posts that you hadn’t read past the the top, but I’m glad that you read it. Thank you.
Are they letting you sleep or what

dualstow,
If you have not read it, see Richard Hofstader's The Paranoid Style in American Politics. He concluded that populist conspiracy theories are deeply embedded in American political culture and re-emerge in times of stress and upheaval-- like right now.
Hofstader (who was himself a secular Jew who lived in New York and taught at Columbia), drew a direct line from Andrew Jackson (enemy of Jewish bankers) to William Jennings Bryan (enemy of Jewish gold dealers) to Joe McCarthy (enemy of Jewish Communists). If he was alive today, Hostader would be reminding us that it was Trump who prominently put a portrait of Old Hickory (his hero), in the Oval Office.
Looks very interesting. I’ll check that out! Thank you.jhogue wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 9:14 amdualstow,

i’ll get to it. It’s just really cumbersome to split threads. Labor of love, but cumbersome nonetheless.I Shrugged wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 4:02 pm I hear that a couple of the prairie provinces are going to drop their vax requirements. It appears the protests are working.
Also, seems like time for a forked thread about antisemitism. Because I'm pretty confident that it's not on the agenda of the Canadian protestors.

Re. Trudeau - In my opinion he absolutely exudes elitism in his speech, manerisms, and the way he dresses and styles his hair. I expect he views the Canadian (and USA) peons and truckers to be so far beneath him that he can't relate.
