80/20 VTI/IAU for my 17YO

Post by buddtholomew » Mon Nov 16, 2020 10:35 am

Had to share with the only group that might consider this a milestone for father and son.

The boy started working at Walgreens and has been averaging 20-25 hrs/wk for the last few months.

Friday I transferred his funds to a custodian account at eTrade and bought VTI/IAU 80/20. He’ll be adding ~1K/mo. going forward for the foreseeable future. 1K in cash as well for Redbull, corn nuts and candy.

Proud dad ;D

Thanks for sharing, that's a great start for your son! :)

Eh for someone that young with a small beginner account, I think the 80/20 stocks and gold sounds about right.

He wanted it all in Tesla yesterday and with today’s gain I’m having to explain the benefits of diversification and patience...

Krieg, 1K may not be enough for this kid/man.
He’s also into beef jerky and pistachios (shelled).

Well done, Budd. You should be very proud.

Solid portfolio, BTW. It's nice to see young investors appreciate the value of commodities.

Shelled sounds like one of those words that's its own opposite. Like sanction.

"Boned" is another one. Or "seeded". When cleaning up the backyard, I often say "I'm going to go poop the yard".

Definitely "federalism" fits into that category. The word should be "state-ism"!
