DNA has its own language (code), and language requires intelligence. There is no known mechanism by which matter can give birth to information, let alone language. It is unreasonable to believe the world could have happened by chance.
Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
Hey peeps,
I'm going to be taking a break from the forum (and being social generally) to just kind of ground myself.
I hope you guys are all doing excellent. Will see you in a bit.
Don't do anything knuckleheaded while I'm gone.

Ground yourself!!!!! This a WHOLE topic here about it. I read every single post in it. Even the super technical ones!
I do many hours of grounding every time I go outside to do work in my 1,000+ square foot garden area while barefooted the entire time.

Pugchief,
Just got a surprise notice that my dentist has decided to retire. He gave no specific reason, but coming amid the pandemic, it naturally reminded me of your musings about your own possible retirement.
Please enlighten us more about your current situation. I wonder whether dental practices, with their expensive human capital, exposure to the virus, and high investment in physical infrastrucuture are at particular risk of going under.

So what did you gold-hoarding, libertarian, investment-minded folks get up to while I was gone?

Some notable things about my breakup recovery getaway:
- In the first week, playing video games helped... a LOT. I beat Final Fantasy X, which is about a 40 hour game, in like 3 days. I beat Resident Evil 3, which is about a 4 to 5 hour game, four or five times in a row, in just another couple days.
- Cutting off contact sped up recovery compared to previous breakups.
- Treating the breakup blues as a kind of "sickness" that needs to be treated like a bad cold really helped. It's hard when you think to yourself "There will never be another like her!" It's much more palatable to think to yourself "Wanting to talk to her is just a passing feeling and is entirely a result of this 'sickness' that you're recovering from."
- Pornhub.
- Be kind to yourself. When you take the time to analyze your internal monologue, you'll probably find that you are incredibly mean to yourself. Actively changing that internal monologue improves outlook significantly.
- Now into the second week and feeling much better. Once I moved out of the video game stage I went back into working on things I enjoy like programming, math, and playing music.

Sounds like Reframing. Good stuff.
Stoicism.
And does show up in many places.

I really like underground instrumental and hip-hop stuff that's not mainstream. Most people have never even heard of the music I like. Here's a couple:

A lot of it doubles as good workout music!

Nujabes, nice! Were you ever a fan of Samurai Champloo? Great soundtrack.
Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
YES. Excellent stuff. This is really bringing back a lot of memories as I'm listening to this.
What kind of music are you into?

Happy asparagus season to all the Germans out there.

Yours truly has a virtual date via Zoom with a girl I started chatting with on OkCupid.
I can see this forum becoming like a sitcom. Sooner or later there will be a marriage subplot where I try to marry some girl you guys don't approve of. You all burst and into the ceremony and hurl a bag of bullion into my face and drag me off.

Ok, we need a Get Smith Married thread like yesterday!Smith1776 wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2020 12:00 pm Yours truly has a virtual date via Zoom with a girl I started chatting with on OkCupid.

But...try to get famous in stand up first. Get a netflix special. That’ll help.
Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
If I ever get Netflix famous with stand up I promise I will slip some Harry Browne/PP references that only people here would get. Little forum easter eggs!
