Saw something about this on forum recently but can't find it. What do folks recommend for encryption? I like to have sensitive info on a USB drive with me when I travel.

Have you had any issues in the conversion to VeraCrypt?

I downloaded and changed over yesterday and see no difference other than it takes longer to open the encrypted file. Documentation says this is because of the stronger encryption.

I didn't really use TrueCrypt, so I can't compare. But, I haven't had any issues with VeraCrypt.

OK thanks. I keep thinking for my needs TrueCrypt will continue to work just fine, but................why mess with the old stuff that won't be supported any more. The user interface is so close on VeraCrypt you really can't tell you have made the change.

Since they didn't reveal all of the security flaws of TrueCrypt, how do you know VeraCrypt is any more secure?

I would never use third-party software for boot or full drive encryption unless it is integrated and a battle-tested into the OS, i.e. Bitlocker.

I made a sparseBundle on my Mac and now it tells me it's unreadable. Files lost. That's just one anecdote and I'm sure it could happen in VeraCrypt, but I don't make sparseBundles or encrypted disk images anymore.

Honestly, since I don't have much to hide, my main line of defense is to just sign into a guest account when I'm not around. That prevents casual glances that might occur from visiting friends or relatives, contractors, whatever. And external drives unplugged.
