Re: PP Manhattan Meet-up: 2 pm May 9 @ New Leaf Cafe
Hi all,
Meetup report later maybe.
My dad had a sudden event early last week and passed away at home yesterday. I'll just say that there was a post in another thread that was almost uncannily spot on, except to say: this is part of life. And, keeping the medical machine out of the process as much as possible is a very good thing. We never took him to the hospital and can only guess it was a big intracerebral hemorrhage.
Got stuff to do now. It is comforting to read the posts every once in a while though. Keep the words of wisdom coming!

Sophie,
So sorry to hear about your dad. It's coming up on two years since my dad passed away and I still think about him every day. He still makes me laugh and I treasure all the stuff I learned from him. We were also able to keep the big medical machine at bay, and a big part of that, I am convinced, is that my dad knew his time was up and just bravely packed it in. I was talking to a friend the other day whose dad passed away 17 years ago and he was amazed that he still missed the old guy. Good people are like that... they leave some things behind that we find along our way here and there.
I wish you the best with all the practical details but don't stay away too long in case one of us starts futzing with our asset allocations!

So sorry to hear that, Sophie.

Many of us have walked that path recently. I was pleased he left on bias own terms. That brought some peace to the time and good memories over 13 months. May you experience the same.
I do look towards our next meet. We should both see barrett this time. Dr Melvey is expected to preside in Chinatown. Should be a truly positive experience.
To better days soon,
Bedraggled

Thanks so much all!!
Reub, I was thinking about you & what you went through with your dad not too long ago. It sounded like you took really good care of him (e.g. during Hurricane Sandy) and had a wonderful relationship that you will always remember.
I can't BELIEVE how much activity there's been, and all the new members too! Fantastic. Time to catch up on reading, and when is the next Manhattan meetup?

Sorry to hear of your loss Sophie and I hope you are getting through it without too much sadness.
My Dad died in 2005 and I still think about him almost every day.
It was easily the toughest thing I have ever been through.

Thanks MT and by the way very, very happy that you're back.
Can definitely relate. I just can't quite get over how my dad is not here anymore. Once I went to his workbench in search of a particular type of screwdriver. It's all beautifully organized but in a way that made sense only to him, and I just wish I'd asked him about it back when he was able to tell me.
