Here's a cute little CNN video on the topic. They actually cover the ground quite well and it's fun to watch. Good distraction from the nasty argument going on in another thread :-)

The part about the army of billing and coding workers is right on the "money". This process takes somewhere between 50-70% of physician reimbursements. Add malpractice insurance, record-keeping overhead, maintaining licensing & insurance plan memberships etc to this, of course.
Which means that of all the dollars spent for health care, the vast majority is simply going to feed the huge bureaucratic/corporate machine.
Last comment is a little piece of advice: Don't go to the ER for a headache.

Re: Why Health Care is So Expensive
I lasted halfway through until I realized they were saying that health care is so expensive because too much of it is left in private hands and the government doesn't run it all.
If the other half said something else somebody can correct me.
Count me extremely dubious of that proposition.

Low personal responsibility.
Low informational symmetry.

Whenever the government gets involved in anything, the costs go up. In this case, they are in it up to their armpits, so the cost has gone WAY up.
