Gyroscopic Investing

Hi All,

Long time lurker. I appreciate the integrity and knowledgebase of this community (as i'm sure others do) and wanted to encapsulate a lot of the wisdom and experience here in a clean, readable format.

The idea is to make lists of materials such as books, podcasts, movies, and more; to curate a "go to" list of recommended material. The first post will be edited periodically and will showcase the most recommended/highly regarded suggestions. Not everything will be included and not everyone will agree, but it's a chance to spark discussion and discover something new. Anyone hungry for more can just read user's posts for all the suggestions mentioned.

Guidelines will be tentative, but i'll try to be as "fair" about what makes the list.

My plan is to start the first thread "THE RECOMMENDED - Books" which will be split into sub-categories like "Finance", "Fiction", and "Non-Fiction".

So for example, the thread will have an "Updated on: xx/xx/xxxx" at the top of the first post with "THE RECOMMENDED - Books" as a header and with the above mentioned sub-categories. Every so often I'll read through the posts and add newly suggested books to each appropriate category.

Sound fun? I'm looking to gauge interest and get feedback. Hope this gets the ball rolling!

7 habits was good but just way to long.

Regarding finance books, the first one I read that sparked my initial interest in saving and investing was The Richest Man in Babylon.

It's so short and plainly worded that even a young teenager can read and fully understand its basic message, and the fact that it's written in the form of a fictional story makes it easier to hold the reader's interest.

The earlier a person is exposed to the idea of saving and investing and understands the tremendous value of starting early (due to compound interest), the better. And this is exactly the sort of book that can expose a young reader to that idea without boring them to death or intimidating or mystifying them.
