How I Found Freedom

Post by Maddy » Sun Dec 02, 2018 10:39 pm

What a superlative book. Unfortunately, copies are going for $35 and up these days, and those generally are the ones in tattered condition. I got the impression that Craig and MediumTex (never knew his real name) were working on some projects with the heirs. Does anyone happen to know whether there are any plans to republish the work? I'd kill for an audio CD, but perhaps that's too much to ask.

How I Found Freedom was a distillation of a lecture series that Harry used to give - targeted towards libertarian audiences. His other lecture series was more marketing focused. You can get the original "freedom lecture" audio tapes on Amazon.

I had downloaded them in the past from his widow's website and they are a good listen.

BTW, Craig Rowland and J.M. Lawson (Medium Tex) are geniuses in their own right. They both have an outstanding sense of how humanity works. Maddy, from what I have read of your writing, I think you would get along well.

I've never been able to read anything on a computer screen. As you might imagine, my toner bill gets quite large.

I actually got incredibly lucky a couple of years back and found a hardbound copy of the book in the local Goodwill store. That was a day to remember! But there have been many times that I wanted to share the wisdom without risking letting go of my own copy. Have you ever, even once, gotten a loaner book back?

When I look at the news these days, this book comes frequently to mind, because it focuses on the self-defeating nature of certain modes of thinking that seem almost defining of half the population these days.

Thanks for the link, Mark--I'll check it out!

I was very resistant to Kindle. But once I bought one (get the paperwhite; worth the extra $) on the recommendation of Kshartle, who used to post here, I find real books to be inferior.
Me as well. All my books are in a 1/4" thick device on my nightstand that has a built in backlight and I still don't have to charge more than once a month. It is a great device.

Can't replace magazines and the way I flip through those just yet though.

Oops! Sorry about that.
Here's the set I downloaded several years ago. I listened to them in the background while doing other chores and I felt I got my money's worth.

I have daydreamed about printing entire forums in book form. O0 There are a few services out there that will print whatever you paste, although it's not supposed to be copyrighted material. I want a bookshelf of volumes, all the same size, of my journals and favorite online forums.

DW likes my I-Pad better than her Kindle. When her current Kindle goes, it will be replaced with a new I-Pad. Apparently, she can adjust the brightness on my I-Pad when she is using it- news to me.

There are some books that just aren't on Kindle. Leon Uris' "Trinity" which I read 35 or so years ago. "Trinity" would have been handy to read in anticipation of traveling to Galway and environs recently.

Another book, a real tome recommended here is not on Kindle. The book's pretty thick, too.

Regarding Kindle Unlimited, I tried it but found less to read after 4 weeks and cancelled in 3 months.

Any thoughts on Kindle Unlimited?

If you like romance novels and other for the masses kinda stuff it may be good for you. If you are more into substance, not so much. SIgn up for a couple of months and do lots of title surfing to see if it is worth it. You can always cancel and its' only $10. Not saying there isn't some good substantive things, but don't expect anything like full access to all the books on Amazon...far from it.
