Yes, I turned 70 two days ago (and get my first SS check next month).
Badass! What’s your secret? Discipline, or just good genes?
This is why I'm no longer liberal: I actually think he's making a good point here, to the effect that there needs to be more bipartisan working relationships. Sounded to me like he mentioned these two precisely because they were people who held views he did not agree with.Biden said that U.S. leaders have lost the ability to work together. He pointed to two segregationists from the South who were serving in the Senate when Biden was elected - Democratic Senators James Eastland of Mississippi and Herman Talmadge of Georgia.
Eastland described black people as inferior and fought against efforts to desegregate the South. When Biden joined the U.S. Senate in 1973, he and Eastland, members of the same political party, served on the same committee.
“At least there was some civility. We got things done. We didn’t agree on much of anything. We got things done. We got it finished,” Biden said, according to a pool report distributed by his campaign. “But today, you look at the other side and you’re the enemy. Not the opposition, the enemy. We don’t talk to each other anymore.”
But oops, didn't deBlasio just invoke Eastland too? Sounds like that scene from Monty Python's Life of Brian, where the crowd was ready to stone anyone who said the word "Jehovah" regardless of the context. Anyway, I'd score that as a point in Biden's favor, that he's "out of step" with values like this.New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who is also seeking the Democratic nomination, criticized Biden’s remarks.
“It’s past time for apologies or evolution from @JoeBiden,” de Blasio wrote on Twitter. “He repeatedly demonstrates that he is out of step with the values of the modern Democratic Party.”
De Blasio called out Biden for invoking Eastland, posting a photo of himself on Twitter with his wife, who is black, and his two multi-racial children.
“It’s 2019 & @JoeBiden is longing for the good old days of ‘civility’ typified by James Eastland. Eastland thought my multiracial family should be illegal & that whites were entitled to ‘the pursuit of dead n*ggers,’” de Blasio wrote on Twitter.
yep!
It seems like good material for it comes up almost every day.

somehow the courts have decided that you qualify for asylum if there is simply widespread crime or violence where you live, and Ramirez was also going to use that argument as well. A government need not persecute you; you just have to experience an unsafe environment that your government is failing to suppress. This so expands the idea of asylum, in my view, as to render it meaningless.
.Literally billions of human beings now have the right to asylum in America. As climate change worsens, more will rush to claim it. All they have to do is show up
Link: http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2019/06/ ... ation.htmlLast month alone, 144,000 people were detained at the border making an asylum claim. This year, about a million Central Americans will have relocated to the U.S. on those grounds.
When I’m told only white racists favor restrictionism, I note how the Mexican people are more opposed to illegal immigration than Americans: In a new poll, 61.5 percent of Mexicans oppose the entry of undocumented migrants, period; 44 percent believe that Mexico should remove any undocumented alien immediately. Are Mexicans now white supremacists too?

Video of brave and righteous ANTIFA mob in Portland take turns throwing cement milkshakes and assaulting a journalist.
They estimate over 95% of Independents and Republicans will switch their vote away from Trump next year after seeing these heroes courageously stand up to this racist/supremacist/etc.
I’m no fan of Antifa, but I find it telling that the guy whose twitter feed you posted made his first point to say 1) Ban face masks and 2) Criminalize Antifa.Kriegsspiel wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 12:09 am https://twitter.com/stillgray/status/11 ... 9827356672

Oh, even the modern flag is considered a fascist symbol by them.MangoMan wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2019 12:06 pm Nike pulls ‘Betsy Ross flag’ sneaker after Colin Kaepernick says it was offensive
I guess the American Flag is now a symbol of racism among the woke crowd.
Do you think the last remaining woke will go back to sleep after it has devoured the rest of the wokes? Or will it self devour? It's hard to sleep with a full stomach!dualstow wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2019 1:28 pmOh, even the modern flag is considered a fascist symbol by them.MangoMan wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2019 12:06 pm Nike pulls ‘Betsy Ross flag’ sneaker after Colin Kaepernick says it was offensive

This is 2018, but I was linked back to it when I was looking at kriegs' post.

I didn't intend to imply that I agreed with the tweet (I didn't read it), just wanted to share the video. I don't know about banning masks and "criminalizing" Antifa, but governments have a responsibility to protect their citizens. Antifa, especially in Portland, is blocking streets, intimidating people, and assaulting them.moda0306 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 12:04 pm I’m no fan of Antifa, but I find it telling that the guy whose twitter feed you posted made his first point to say 1) Ban face masks and 2) Criminalize Antifa.
State violence in the form of trying to ban expression and criminalize group membership is far and away more dangerous than these Leninist fuckheads could ever dream to be. I’m far more nervous of ideas like that taking hold than radical leftists doing more of what they’ve done for a couple centuries.
I think the banning of face masks at public demonstrations is a very good idea and there are a lot of cities that have ordinances like this. I don't know if there has ever been a supreme court challenge but I doubt they would find that the first amendment guarantees anonymity to go along with your freedom of expression, especially in a public demonstration, and more especially when it's a cloak for violence. If you want to be anonymous, in my opinion, stick to twitter and facebook and stay away from sticks and stones that can break men's bones.Kriegsspiel wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2019 11:05 amI didn't intend to imply that I agreed with the tweet (I didn't read it), just wanted to share the video. It looks like the Portland police have arrested 3 people, which is good, but you can see on video a lot more than 3 people assaulted these people. I'm no lawyer, but what about if Ngo or the 80 year old dude died. Is everyone who hit them or threw things at them an accomplice to manslaughter or murder?
A ban on masks for bank robbers probably wouldn't have any deterrent effect but it might on an Antifa member at a public demonstration. Even if the police aren't going to do anything to stop it, the fact that the person can be identified means they can at least be arrested later and/or sued.Maddy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2019 4:23 pm Shall we also ban face masks for bank robbers?
My point is this: If your intent is to enforce the law, as opposed to continually standing down, it doesn't matter one hoot whether the perp is wearing a face mask or not. The jail strip search pretty much bares all.
