I hope Xan doesn't mind if I take a brief opportunity to send people to my new company website. People might be interested in knowing what I've been up to since I've not been around much:

We are producing a new kind of intrusion detection and threat hunting tool for Linux systems. If you are a Linux admin and would like to do some early testing, sign up for the mailing list or contact me through the site and I'll be in touch.

I know this is as cheesy as asking about band names, but why sand fly?
No anagrams this time as far as I can tell.
My only experience with actual sand flies is getting eaten alive by them in Honduras. Do they have them in New Zealand?
Is there something in their behavior that reminds you of hunting and security? The way they swarm?

Cheers.

Looking good, Craigr!

A bit of an off topic question, but is there anyway to access your PP podcasts? They are a great source of info on the topic but I can't seem to find them.

Thanks,
Geaux Saints

Of course I don't mind; in fact I'm quite interested in the product. Filling out the contact form.

Craig, if you’re out there-

Is there an alternative to google drive that you like for online storage? Mega? SpiderOak? Thanks.

I'd not put anything really personal in an online drive if it could be avoided. I don't know all the services that are out there, but anything saying it is encrypted, but uses your browser to access it, is vulnerable.

If I need to swap largish files, I encrypt them first then tell the receiver how to download and decrypt them. If you are using OSX it's easy to do this with encrypted drive images. Then you could use something like Google Drive to send the link and Google can't access the actual files.

But just know that anything you upload to Google Drive is almost certainly being indexed by the company for whatever reasons. So don't put anything up there really personal unless you want Google to know about it. Also, make sure any passwords you use are really long sentences perhaps of kind of gibberish words put together.

Good advice, Craig. Thank you!

(I encrypt sensitive text with P.T.E. myself before I send it to Google Drive, although I didn't used to encrypt at all).

Hello,

Sandfly is pleased to announce the release of our new agentless Linux compromise detection and automated security investigation tool. Sandfly can protect your Linux hosts without the need to deploy agents.

Please feel free to forward this to people you know that admin Linux networks or otherwise might be interested. Any social media shares would also be appreciated.
