So is the forum up or not? A moment ago, not.

As I wrote on Libertarian666's forum, a place where some of us find refuge when this one's down, I find it ironic that Craig sought out the pp because he was all about robustness and antifragility in his line of work. This forum is...not robust.

Mine is free also (or rather I'm already paying for hosting and this doesn't add to the expense).

I checked in with the admin at http://www.pizzamaking.com/forum/index.php, a larger forum than this (50x users, ~2x total posts), which happens to use the same SMF software. He confirmed there were growing pains swapping different inexpensive hosting providers, but he rarely has issues now that he runs it on a dedicated server.

You mean that there are more pizza makers than PP adherents? Disgusting fatsos!

Yes, but judging by the ratios, the average pizza maker may spend more time making pizza than talking about it on the internet, which may confer mental health benefits.

That way, we have four total modes of communication.  If at any time on or two are going down, hopefully they are compensated by the other 2-3
Any of these ever get embraced? Did not look like from reading through all the other posts in this Topic.

Looks like this was never accepted of formalized? There still seems to be a need in case the forum again goes down for any length of time. Has it ever similarly gone down since the inception of this topic?

Perhaps I should have added "Your Mileage May Vary". Most hosting companies start out great and emphasize customer service, etc. If you started out in 2007 then I'd be willing to bet EasyCGI was independent at that point. But then if they grow and get traction in the marketplace, they get acquired, stripped, and consolidated by one of the big conglomerates that just rides the wave of the acquired company's brand reputation. If a customer's needs are relatively simple they may never notice the difference.

Yes, with just doing email my needs are extremely simple? For awhile when I was doing eBay ads I was also using the web site to host pictures for those ebay ads but now it is just email.

The extended outages were towards the end of the Craig/Tex era, where they really had moved on to other things. There wasn't anybody running the ship to fix whatever might pop up, and because of a less-than-optimal host, things did pop up. It hasn't been a problem lately. Every once in a while the server needs a reboot, which causes maybe a minute of downtime. Other than that it's been very smooth lately.

Yes, thanks to you Xan. We are all very grateful for what you do!
