So during that hour my friends and I smoked a lot of marijuana. I seem to remember us listening to "A Child's Garden of Grass" record. One of the friends wanted to steal a scale from one of the science buildings (for use in his marijuana dealings).
I swear this was also an early episode of Louie (Louis CK), maybe season two?
Well, i never thought about it before, but drug dealing students must have tried to steal scales from schools all over the country. Where else are they going to get them.

Until I wrote what I did last night, I don't think I'd thought of that record since that night (almost 50 years ago). I never owned it and it must have been the radio station's copy.

Here it is with a highly positive review. it also looks like you can stream the contents.

You never mention the name of the band you were managing.
Do you still hang out with Tom Scholz?

You would have NEVER heard of the Rhode Island band - Sage.

Our biggest moment was opening for the James Montgomery band in January 1973. It was before their 1st record came out later that year. We got paid $125 that night while they got paid $1,000.

The biggest moment for the band I managed in western MA - Promise- was the two nights we played with the Raspberries, who had some national hits and whose lead person - Eric Carmen - went on to have as solo career.

Amazing that the Raspberries went from one year playing on a national TV show like the Mike Douglas Show to the next year playing with us in a club in the middle of nowhere. When they played with us they did some Beatles songs and they sounded better than the Beatles.

interesting! I feel like I heard them on satellite radio.
Maybe it’s just because of the name.

Random story based on the Raspberries and the Beatles. I went to a Christopher Cross concert (remember "Sailing" from the early 80s?) at my university and it sucked big time. I think he had like three songs, sang those and left the stage. Additionally, his main band was really not very good. I guess as some sort of way to make you feel you didn't get totally screwed over concerning the concert ticket price, after he and his band left the stage the roadies got on the stage and started playing and singing Beach Boys music...and they were almost as good as the actual Beach Boys.

Great story!

I did see the actual Beach Boys in 1974 and remember thinking how incredible it was that they were still playing in that year after it seemed that basically the whole music world had long put their music in the past.

But then I saw them yet again in 1986 and, of al places, at Yankee Stadium AFTER a Yankees game. I think Jerry Lee Lewis may have played before them. Then we saw fireworks! It was July 3, 1986.

Kbg and Vinny,

Summer, 1995:

DW and I saw Christopher Cross as a warm up act for the Beach Boys. The location was Jones Beach State Park. There is that amphitheater on the north side of the park.

As to the complaint that Cross was the opening act, I think he did those 3 songs you mentioned and out! The Beach Boys were good and introduced their new album "Night and Day" which is a tribute to 1930s and 1940s big band songs. They played 'Moonlight Serenade' and 'In The Mood.' I am not the biggest Beach Boys fan but that big band album is still great 25 years later. And Paul McCartney was always spurred to create after a Beach Boys release.

Vinny,

We will need to discuss the Yankees and the DH.

This may require PMs.

I am with Xan on the designated hitter. I did finally see the Mona Lisa in Paris a couple of years ago. If we put a mustache above that mysterious smile, we get the designated hitter. Just thought I'd pass along a thought to enhance your morning.

Cheers.

I saw The Beach Boys circa 1980...I’ve always liked their music but hands down it was the funnest concert I’ve ever been to, to this day. I’ve heard the only concert as fun was a Jimmy Buffet concert.
