EVOO has tons of anti-inflammatory substances.  It's called polyphenols and it prevents LDL oxidization, among other things.  That research will completely overwhelm those Vegan Wacko's studies.
The study authors are vegans?  More importantly, EVOO is NOT Vegan?  It's quite a stretch to imagine there's some vegan conspiracy against olive oil.

I mean V Wackos like Ornish and Campbell.  Dean Ornish is a zero fat vegetarian zealot and T. Colin Campbell is a vegan zealot.  They love to cherry pick outlier or flawed studies against the consensus that supports their delusional ideology.  At least in Ornish's case you can point towards clinical efficacy.  Campbell is just a huckster.
In conclusion, the recommended diets are supported by a minuscule quantity of rigorous evidence that only marginally supports claims that these diets can promote better health than alternatives. Furthermore, the NEL reviews of the recommended diets discount or omit important data. There have been at a minimum, three National Institutes of Health funded trials on some 50?000 people showing that a diet low in fat and saturated fat is ineffective for fighting heart disease, obesity, diabetes, or cancer.46 11 55 56 57 58 59 Two of these trials are omitted from the NEL review. The third trial is included, but its results are ignored. This oversight is particularly striking because this trial, the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI), was the largest nutrition trial in history.55 56 Nearly 49?000 women followed a diet low in fat and high in fruits, vegetables, and grains for an average of seven years, at the end of which investigators found no significant advantage of this diet for weight loss, diabetes, heart disease, or cancer of any kind.11 56 57 58 59 Critics dismiss this trial for various reasons, including the fact that fat consumption did not differ enough significantly between the intervention and control groups, but the percentage of calories from both fat and saturated fat were more than 25% lower in the intervention group than in the control group (26.7% v 36.2% for total fat and 8.8% v 12.1% for saturated fats).57 The WHI findings have been confirmed by other sizeable studies and are therefore hard to dismiss. When the omitted findings from these three clinical trials are factored into the review, the overwhelming preponderance of rigorous evidence does not support any of the dietary committtee’s health claims for its recommended diets.
Unfortunately, parallelling the ongoing silencing of dissent in the vaccine safety debate, the above author has been disinvited from a panel discussion at the Consumer Federation of America’s National Food Policy Conference because at least two panelists refuse to participate with her.  The BMJ also began an "investigation" into the above article due to pressure from these panelists.  BTW, one of the panelists is the infamous Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) which I've pillaged elsewhere in this forum as a whacko low-fat cult organization largely responsible for spearheading the widespread introduction of toxic trans-fats into processed and fast food (the other panelist was the former chairwoman of the Dietary Guidelines committee that published the last set.)

Disgusted. :-X

There is substantial mounting evidence that industrial/processed foods are bad for you, but I think we all know that at this point, and once again people seem to be healthy enough even eating a diet of pure industrial swill as long as they eat LITTLE enough of it. FWIW, I personally practice lacto-ovo vegetarianism. I love meat, but I don't trust anything but wild game anymore.
My dad lived to be 95 years old and his diet was atrocious according to everything I hear about a proper diet. Two teaspoons of sugar in his coffee, eggs and bacon for breakfast almost every day - some kind of meat with mashed potatoes and gravy for dinner - pie, cake, and/or ice cream for desert. And a snack before bed time.

Maybe he could have squeezed out a few more years, maybe not. I'm 67 now and you can ask me later on what I think about it but right now I'll take my father's deal and I don't even care about living to 95. 90 would be more than enough - that's where I set my retirement planners.

Did your dad drink alcohol or smoke? I lost all four of my grandparents to those, three in their early 70s. Their bodies just fell apart.
Human behavior is economic behavior. The particulars may vary, but competition for limited resources remains a constant.

No, he didn't smoke or drink. Neither of my parents did. My Mom is still alive at age 95 but not doing too well. I don't smoke but I do drink which is why I cut five years off of my life expectancy in the planners. It could be more than five years but I'm okay with it because I enjoy my drink.
