Anyone Else Snowed In?

Post by MediumTex » Tue Feb 01, 2011 1:29 pm

I'm completely iced in right now.  It's MediumTex, Mrs. MTex and the three SmallTexes (no school today) in a fight for survival against the elements.

I'm snowed in as well and tomorrow doesn't look much better.

The woodstove is "crankin" and the tea kettle is hot.

As long as the power is on, I'm happy.  And I have all these great posts to catch up on........

We had our turn about three weeks ago.  Most snow I've seen in Georgia in my lifetime.  It stayed on the roads and ground for a week.

Visiting the grocery store is an eye-opening adventure during a time like that, at least in the South.  An experience like that just reinforces the survivalist streak in me.  Always better to be prepared and never need it than the reverse.

This ice storm is the worst in Texas in about 15 years.  It rained for several hours last night and froze into a solid sheet that is several inches thick in places (and smooth like glass in a lot of places).  It's about 16 degrees right now, so nothing will be melting any time soon.

It's Super Bowl week here, so you can imagine how surprised some of the visitors are.  To be fair, though, this winter storm is hitting much of the country.

The good news is that the forecast for this weekend is 40s-50s, so the weather shouldn't affect the game (the game is inside--I'm really thinking about people trying to get to the game).

Here in New York we still have snow leftover from the previous 7 major storms since Dec 26.  Then last night and today it snowed , sleeted, and rained.  There's a layer of ice on all and it's cute, but I'd settle for snow over the ice.  We're also running out of places to legally dump the stuff.  At least the groundhogs seem to think we will have a short winter.

Sounds like it could be a Robert Earl Keen song.
