Kriegsspiel wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2020 8:11 pm The guitar effects in the Wonders songs sound like the synth effects in the Fountains song. The backing vocals harmonization. and their usage are similar. Nobody did backing vocals like that when Stacy's Mom came out. The vocal reverb is similar. It sounds like the Wonders song was recorded on old equipment (or, old effects, it was filmed in 1999), which gives it that vintage vibe.

It was a great movie.
The other lead singer in our band weighed in when I asked him what similarities he saw between the two songs. His answers was quite similar to mine.

"No i dont...i think youre hearing the harmonies on the choruses and thinking theyre close but actually the Wonders is more 60s like and the Fountains are like the Cars harmonies if you listen closely. The melodys are not at all alike, i mean notation wise."

105 years ago today the Lusitania was sunk. Here is actual film footage showing passengers arriving and the ship ailing on May 1, 1915 from New York.

The second Elon Musk interview with Joe Rogan is out. Note, he doesn't smoke pot in this one.

BUT, if you want to learn how to pronounce the name of his newborn, you can find out here!

It's been going around how celebrities use strange public names like this for their kids for media/paparazzi purposes. The idea being that the child's real name is something much more traditional and kept private.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was what was going on here.

How Beat Detective and Autotune killed music

Fascinating stuff. I knew they abused Autotune, but I didn't know they just edited songs like that. I thought the musicians just played it over and over again until they got it ;D I remember playing around with Fruity Loops at my friends house, it looked a lot like Pro Tools.

That shouldn't be the case for anything on a classical label. There you can still get actual performances, only lightly edited.

Do they mention the drummer from Devo in that clip? He was amazing, but when drum machines came along...I think he became an electrician.

HAH, that was good.

I'm always pretty impressed with people who can translate on the fly. If you've ever worked with an interpreter, you'll know you usually do it in one of two ways. One way, which is worse, you tell the interpreter to tell them something. The second, you say something to the person, and the interpreter translates in real time, so you and the person are looking and talking to each other. The second way is obviously more difficult, and it looks like it's what's being done by the signers you see.

My cousin was a local translator signer* for Obama during his campaign. Don’t throw tomatoes, everybody. O0
EDIT: as in sign language, hand signing.

Well, ASL is a language. Heck, I think it's worthwhile to learn a bit of ASL anyways. The Army teaches some basic sign language as a matter of course. It would come in handy in noisy or windy places like concerts or noisy workplaces. Or even in quiet workplaces like a cubicle farm where you don't want to yell across the room.

Someone should go back over the footage and see if she's blinking out a message in Morse code as well.
