How Beat Detective and Autotune killed music
Fascinating stuff. I knew they abused Autotune, but I didn't know they just edited songs like that. I thought the musicians just played it over and over again until they got it I remember playing around with Fruity Loops at my friends house, it looked a lot like Pro Tools.

That shouldn't be the case for anything on a classical label. There you can still get actual performances, only lightly edited.Kriegsspiel wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 6:04 pm How Beat Detective and Autotune killed music

Do they mention the drummer from Devo in that clip? He was amazing, but when drum machines came along...I think he became an electrician.

HAH, that was good.
I'm always pretty impressed with people who can translate on the fly. If you've ever worked with an interpreter, you'll know you usually do it in one of two ways. One way, which is worse, you tell the interpreter to tell them something. The second, you say something to the person, and the interpreter translates in real time, so you and the person are looking and talking to each other. The second way is obviously more difficult, and it looks like it's what's being done by the signers you see.

DNA has its own language (code), and language requires intelligence. There is no known mechanism by which matter can give birth to information, let alone language. It is unreasonable to believe the world could have happened by chance.

Well, ASL is a language. Heck, I think it's worthwhile to learn a bit of ASL anyways. The Army teaches some basic sign language as a matter of course. It would come in handy in noisy or windy places like concerts or noisy workplaces. Or even in quiet workplaces like a cubicle farm where you don't want to yell across the room.

Someone should go back over the footage and see if she's blinking out a message in Morse code as well.

I don't think I've ever heard an autotuned spoof song I didn't like.

I have a confession. Given my recent ticketing fiasco at the hands of the local police, I get a strange sense of satisfaction seeing everyday citizens fighting the police. I'm awful, I know.

Re: YouTube Junkie
I wouldn't feel too bad. Way back when I was young the local parking inspector would give children a ride up the Main Street on the back of his scooter and go into shops to warn people who were parked at expired meters, rather than just giving a ticket.
Local police were respected and were reasonable in enforcing laws. Unfortunately they have become almost a paramilitary arm of the tax office over the decades. We now have speed cameras, red light cameras, bus lane cameras, vehicle separation cameras and fines for almost everything.
Unfortunately this will get worse as our economy deteriorates....

Unless they just saw the police in those cars rough someone up who didn't deserve it, the people in that video are acting like spoiled dipshits throwing a tantrum. Hell, the police might have been trying to get to an assault, or a rape. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that all those people blocking the cop car would be calling the police if they needed them.

Fortunately that dude was there to disarm him, seemingly immediately.
It's like that scene in Generation Kill (everything that is violent and retarded seems to have a Generation Kill corollary), where the guy was getting chewed out for losing his helmet and points out that "at least I didn't lose a fucking entire supply truck." This cop lost his rifle AND his truck.

I should watch Generation Kill. I’ve read the book, and only made it through one episode of the show.
