List of Internet investment tools/data sources

Post by FarmerD »

Since I am not an academic with access to financial journals nor do I pay for investment research, finding good (and free) investment data and investment tools on the internet is difficult.  However, after a lot of searching I found these sites.  Hopefully some others may find these weblinks useful.

Here’s 2 sites where you can see inflation stats going back a number of years.  Good to have when back testing startegies.

This is a part of a financial advisory firms website.  Lots of asset class data here.  Of particular note is Fig 6-18 which gives asset class returns on a yearly basis since 1928.

This site is a bond price calculator that is pretty handy.

This site provides some good asset correlation data.

Here’s a ton of investment/personal finance articles pulled from academic journals.  Lots of good reading here.

Here’s a lazy portfolio that’s not mentioned on Paul Boyer’s site.  It basically includes all asset classes.  The author does include a 40 year back tested performance broken down by year and asset class (including commodity index returns) so there good information here if nothing else.

This site gives a reasonably good overview of the commodity markets.  Prior to about 9 monbths ago, I was totally unknowledgeable about commodities so this site helped me.

If anyone knows of other good sites, please post as I’d like to see.
