Re: A place to talk about random things....
What is the countdown now? I am guessing 18 days? Or 22?

Oh shoot, I was going to pause at 10,000. What do I do now?
Maybe at 10,010.
Maybe at 10,010.

Once Dualstow surpasses MachineGhost, will he be the user with the most posts on the forum of all time?

Re: A place to talk about random things....
Seems to be the case.
Then it will truly be the case of, "All Hail Dualstow!" The full abdication by MachineGhost will have been completed!

Dualstow's contributions to the forum are indeed invaluable.
It does make me sad that Craig and Tex, the progenitors of the forum, are getting surpassed. Their posts being pushed back further and further into archive territory.

Re: A place to talk about random things....
Random thought.
We all suspect that Ray Dalio's All-Weather fund and his risk parity philosophy were strongly influenced by Browne.
I just realized it goes further than that though. You know the concept of the PP and VP split? Well, Dalio does that too. His All-Weather fund is his PP, and his Pure Alpha fund (that makes active bets) is his VP.
A little recognition of Browne on the part of Dalio would be nice.

Re: A place to talk about random things....
Second random observation.
Kevin O'Leary (Shark Tank guy) has long been known for espousing a dividend philosophy thanks to his mother. Now, we all know on this forum that dividends are not the income he supposes. I'm sure he gets tons of messages, mail, tweets, etc. telling him that he's wrong to think of dividends as income.
It seems he's finally started to change his tune. In his recent interviews and talks I've noticed he's been slyly backing away from the dividend tune. Now he's talking about emphasizing quality stocks that return capital by other methods such as buybacks. The marketing material on his ETFs has been changing lately too.
O'Leary being who he is, I'm sure he'll never admit he was ever wrong, but I suspect behind the scenes he's finally been caught up to date on the logic and math behind dividend irrelevance.

Re: A place to talk about random things....
I have their "From the Fires" CD. Their first one? I don't even know how many recordings they have. I think I read that comparison and I think I've only listened to it once and remember not coming to the same judgment. I have it in front of me now and I'll listen to it later tonight and see if my opinion changes.

Re: A place to talk about random things....
I just finished listening to that CD twice. Yes, definitely a Led Zeppelin type sound. But vastly inferior. I have 10,611 songs on my iPod and I would not have added one song from this CD to it.
It's like Led Zeppelin are major league and they are AAA. Or, fringe major leaguers just trying to stay in the big leagues.

I couldn’t agree more. It’s the fact that they don’t admit the similarities that bothers me.

Re: A place to talk about random things....
Where are you expecting them to do this? Or, have they been asked and they deny?

Re: A place to talk about random things....
I’m not expecting. But when they first became popular, it was brought up in every single interview. (Naturally, because any Zep fan notices after 4 seconds of listening). Pretty much every time they would say, Zeppelin? Oh, I guess. Maybe a little bit. We really listen to Aerosmith more. Or this band, or that band. But the vocals may as well be a sound sample.
I’m not saying they’re not talented. They sound nice.

From Kat Klub:
Although, if the subways filled with water but no one were around to use them, why would that matter.
It wouldn't. It's just an interesting, detailed description of how the city was constructed and how it could fall apart. The scary part is all the work that is being done right now, every day, to keep water from various sources from getting into the NYC subway system. It was published a good five years before superstorm Sandy, but it talks about how storms occasionally temporarily overwhelm the systems in place.

I was just reading ‘The World Without Us” a book describing in great detail how nature would retake the earth if humans suddenly vanished (the New York chapter is terrifying, WiseOne. How do they even keep the subways free of water *today*. Answer: with great effort).
There’s a passage that says long after predators have eaten domesticated dogs, feral cats will live on, eating starlings.

In the author's scenario, the rats starve off, yay!WiseOne wrote: ↑Mon May 18, 2020 8:24 am Ooh, that does sound scary. Although, if the subways filled with water but no one were around to use them, why would that matter. Except the rats, I guess. Feral cats are way too smart to mess with subway tunnels.
Probably a more significant problem are the shorelines and steep cliffs held up by retaining walls in various states of disrepair. A nearby one collapsed a few years ago and blocked a highway for several days. The residents of the coop that owned the wall ended up getting stuck with bills of $50K or so each. Not everyone had enough insurance coverage. I made sure my homeowner's policy would cover an event like that, because my coop also has retaining walls.

In my 'notifications' section, home page with the bell- top right, I have a '2' next to the bell. When I checked, there are two people who are not forum members with irrelevant info. I usually ignore 'notification' and I did not click/open either one. How did these 2 notifications get to me?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Is everyone enjoying the rooftop Korean memes? (Tough armed Koreans from the L.A. riots of '92. The pictures have aged well).
I didn't get that one either. Where is the photo from?

p.s. Dualstow thank you for your signature line! I'm safe as blazes where I am....out of the way, unfashionable, low density neighborhood protected by geography. I briefly heard some marchers heading down a main street the other day but they were out of earshot within a few minutes.
