Re: Any "Breaking Bad" Fans Here?
I never watched a single episode of this series until early this month.. just finished it all yesterday.. pretty amazing, makes me want to visit Albuquerque some day as I've found some of the locations in the movie on Yelp (i.e. the dog house restaurant.)
Re: Any "Breaking Bad" Fans Here?
Anyone see that "Better Call Saul" is scheduled to start in November.

Until then you can get your Bob Odenkirk fix by watching 'Fargo'. :-)

He is great on that show too.dualstow wrote: Until then you can get your Bob Odenkirk fix by watching 'Fargo'. :-)
I think it's a testament to his acting skills that you immediately see him as Bill Oswalt instead of Saul Goodman, who was almost a Cosmo Kramer-like character, with all of the type-casting risk that can occur with such a role.
Saul, in spite of his deeds, was a very likable character whereas Bill Oswalt is probably the most off-putting character on Fargo (even worse than the bad guys, b/c he's so frustratingly stupid).
Odenkirk does a great job in the role, and I love his cheap haircut and pseudo- pushbroom moustache.

To each his own. For what it's worth, it took me a few episodes.Desert wrote: Reading through the comments, it appears that I need to give it a few more episodes before coming to a conclusion on the show. Is that fair?

I was milk toast on it for the first season, but wound up loving it.

Yes, it was very slow and boring the first couple. Just like Andromeda. No relation.Desert wrote: Hey guys ... I'm just starting to watch this show. I know, I'm a few years behind as usual. I just finished the old 24 series, if you can believe that. Anyway, we've watched the first three episodes, and it's decent so far but not great. Reading through the comments, it appears that I need to give it a few more episodes before coming to a conclusion on the show. Is that fair?
A great, independent movie that Breaking Bad reminds me of is Warrior. Similar cirumstances with a teacher but an entirely different road to perdition.

The degree to which Walt goes from dabbling in bad stuff to becoming the bad stuff is pretty striking.MachineGhost wrote:Yes, it was very slow and boring the first couple. Just like Andromeda. At first, he seems clumsy, desperate and sort of pathetic, but then his anger just seems to eclipse everything else and from there forward he's a really scary dude.
For me, I think that the turning point was in the clothing store when the punks were making fun of Walt Jr.'s disability.

I intend to watch Breaking Bad as soon as I can get it for free on Amazon but so far I have only watched the free preview episode.
A writer that I regularly read named John Derbyshire just got into it and he cautioned that you have get through some implausibility in the beginning. One of those was the fact that a public school teacher had no health insurance. That does sound implausible if true.
But then again, I enjoyed 24 so I doubt I'll have a problem with such minor issues.

Get your free 30 day subscription to Netflix and you can watch most of it.ns3 wrote: I intend to watch Breaking Bad as soon as I can get it for free on Amazon but so far I have only watched the free preview episode.

As far as Walt not having health insurance, it wasn't that he didn't have health insurance; it was that his out of pocket costs were still very high because his cancer was so expensive to treat. That part didn't trouble me at all. A lung cancer trip can easily cost $500k+, and if your out of pocket 10-15% of that amount, it can wreck you financially.

Have you seen the "Faceoff" episode yet? At first I thought that it had something to do with hockey.

Don't watch if you haven't seen the entire series.

Re: Any "Breaking Bad" Fans Here?
I think your post here is what caused me to watch the movie. I'd never seen any of the TV series so much of the movie made no sense to me. But watching the movie led me to watching all the seasons in a compressed period of time. As soon as I watched the last episode, I again watched the movie. Made much more sense the second time around.

Yes.
Immediately after finishing Breaking Bad, I went directly to watching all the seasons of Better Call Saul. I may have liked that series more because it was not as dark as Breaking Bad.
