Rational reasons why you should be prepared

Post by Vil »

IMHO, worth reading, though can be categorized as (un)common sense.
And don't get mislead by the subject (actually there's section about what you may think initially, named Movie stuff: asteroids, aliens, zombies, and killer apes ;D )

I like ‘ We have lost 250,000 years worth of skills in less than 100’ and the section that follows it, ‘ Everyday situations that you can prepare for’
I don’t have any idea whether or not they are respected by pros, but I loved those survival guides that were popular in bookstores in the early 2000s. Not sure what happened to mine.

Are you telling us that those survival guides did not survive??!!!

LOL. Well I don’t believe they survived our move to an apartment and back during a huge renovation many years ago.
But, once in a while a book or other object long considered lost reappears.

I taught my kids how to use a paper road atlas to navigate cross-country in case of an emergency GPS outage. I keep a paper road atlas... it never gets used, but I have it.

During Covid I proved that my innate lifestyle is somewhat survivalist in that after we all went home mid-March I did not leave my property for the next two months and survived on all the food stockpiled in my basement that I'd previously bought on sale. Cats were similarly all set!

DS, what's the name of that book ? May find it strange, but looks kind of more detailed than the ones I found translated in BG.
So, maybe its time to shift to the untranslated. To be honest I read them mostly for entertainment, but they are awfully lacking any details and annoyingly repetitive - so even not that entertaining. For example - this is xyz knot and what you have is some ugly picture, no details on how the knot is to be tied. Etc.

Hm, you know what .. Now looking deep inside my inner self .. I started reading those books once my little one (well, already a teenager) started watching the Indiana movies .. :-D

The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook: Travel
by Joshua Piven and David Borgenicht

(2001)

Take off the word Travel and you have the title of the first book.
The end pages also mention a website, but I see that now leads to some kind of Indian lottery page.

(Edit: I don’t know what the camera did to my thumb but it does not look like an AI-generated thumb in real life O0 )

It’s a good book; I like it. I haven’t been in any of these extreme situations (yet) so Arnie’s book is probably more useful.
