good references for estate planning?

Post by joypog » Fri Apr 29, 2022 10:14 am

Now that I'm pretty happy with our investment direction moving forward, I need to tackle the other big hole in my paperwork. Any suggestions about books or authors to study? Even if the ultimate answer is "find a lawyer" I want to go into their office with some knowledge of the terrain. I'm located in the US.

Thanks for the link! Looks promising. I'll start with the freewill (and the health care proxy) this weekend.

I'll check out the book...but most likely just borrow a few books from the library to get and overview of the field and then convince my wife its time to get a lawyer involved.

https://www.nolo.com/

Nolo has been well known and well regarded for decades in supplying information such as you seek. Usually directed at the do-it-yourselfer.

Same impression here.
But then again I couldn't come up many ideas on how to make the subject matter more entertaining.

The Dummies series of books are generally excellent and usually make it mandatory that their authors inject humor in the books. However, checking at Amazon it looks like their last estate planning book was nearly 20 years ago --- 2003.

The NOLO books do seem to get the best reviews at Amazon:

There was also one from them directed towards Californians that I did not note above.
