How do YOU make a martini?

Post by SomeDude »

Beefeater 3oz, dash of bitters, cap full dry vermouth (martini & rossi), stirred vigorously, large lemon peel expressed, rubbed on the rim of a coupe glass and dropped in.

For a little dirtier version, switch the bitters out with a cap full of olive brine and either a blue cheese or garlic stuffed olive instead of the lemon.

Ive been know to kick it up with jalapeno stuffed or anchovy in the olive.

Caution, thread drift from the mundane to the exquisite:

3.75 oz Glenfiddich 12 or Macallan 12, neat. If splurging a bit, 18. ;)
DNA has its own language (code), and language requires intelligence. There is no known mechanism by which matter can give birth to information, let alone language. It is unreasonable to believe the world could have happened by chance.

I like an aviation cocktail without the lemon juice. As much as I love citrus, it hurts my stomach. (The alcohol does not).

If I'm drinking gin, it's a gin & tonic. Like pug said, that's a great summer cocktail. In the cold months I like a simple old fashioned. Swish around some sugar/splenda in a splash of water. Then a few dashes of bitters and however much brandy or whisky you feel like.

There's a lot of swishing, splashing, and dashing with old fashioneds.

Another good winter-weekend idea is throwing some kahlua/Irish cream/coffee moonshine into your morning coffee.

in 2018 I read every James Bond Novel, I think 18 which I got as a Christmas gift.

Bond drank everything under the sun, and actually the famous vodka martini (actually a kangaroo kicker) was pretty rare.

It was not rare for me though, and I had them a few times at night per week while reading.

Very simple, very crisp.

- 3 oz vodka, Russian standard for me, but anything wheat based if you want to Bond. He made a point in the books of saying potato-based vodka was too oily.

- cap full of dry or extra dry vermouth (martini & Rossi)

- Shake VIGOROUSLY in a shaker to make it icy cold and dilute. Don't skimp on the shaking.

- double strain into coupe glass

- express a large lemon peel over the top, rub it on the rim and drop in.

You'll see it's a very good drink you can drink dangerously quick if it's ice cold. it's like 2 shots of vodka, so max two for the ladies or 3 for the guys unless you want to be out for the night.

Funny, I am planning on doing the same this year. Right now I'm reading the Expanse series (the books that the Amazon show is based on), and then I have a couple other ones, then it's on to the Bond.

Seems like an embarrassing thing to admit. Just keep practicing and you'll be able to hang with it.

A KK is what i described. That's the real name. Bond called it a vodka martini, up ending gin which is what a true martini is made with. Vodka won the PR war. Damn commies winning all over the place.....

I just think it's a safe play to periodically flush out your system with large doses of alcohol in these plagued times.

My trainer has me stopping all alcohol consumption. No martinis. No wine and cheese evenings. Not even Baileys in coffee. :(

it does seem to work for constipation. Not as healthful as psyllium seed, but more entertaining.

I was in Flora Bama last week. For the uninitiated, it is one of the seven wonders of the modern world. But... I suspected it was a shots and beer and umbrella drink bar.

Much to my surprise, the gal next to me ordered a Martini, and I watched the Southern Gal behind the bar make a mighty fine Martini. My hopes arose.

I asked her, "That looks like a great Martini. Can you make a Manhattan?"

Sure. Would you like it Southern style?

Me: Um... yea.

{Drink Appears, I taste it}

Her: What do you think?

Me: It's a bit sweeter than I expected. Did you use Southern Comfort?

Her: No! Even better. Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey!.

Me: Well.... That's something, right there.

I had a Margarita with my prime rib at the Texas Roadhouse tonight.

Her: Would you like a kicker?

Me: Um... Sure.

Her (cute blonde) : Sorry about the kicker, we had to do it ghetto tonight.

Me: Ghetto is just my style.

I just popped the cork on some Wild Turkey American Honey a couple days ago. It's not bad.

I love unmanly drinks, too. I like my scotch, my vodka, but sometimes I too trade in my balls for melon balls.

I was unclear. I hate sweet drinks. That one just sounded really good, and I had them reduce the sweetness by using less strawberry puree.

So just the cucumber with a little strawberry. Yup, that's what the Vikings drank. O0

Hold my chilled martini glass in one hand
Think really hard about dry vermouth
Bombay Sapphire swirled over ice in the other hand
Strain into glass
Enjoy with my medium rare rib eye steak
