Atlas Shrugged Book

Is this a good book? I've read and heard mixed reviews. Please don't write any spoilers in your answers.

I started it a few days ago. The writing seems good to me, and I've enjoyed the read so far, but some of the plot points seem strained and unrealistic. It's a long book. I don't want to waste my time if it's not worth it.

I read 30+ pages per night for over 30 night. Worth it. "Fountain Head" is ok. Gary Cooper did the movie.

I used the same approach to Shogun but the book wasn't for me. I guess I should appreciate Shogun more for its possibilities in historical fiction.

You might send a PM to I Shrugged.

personal review.
- its fiction -
- the philosophy is laid out in the story brilliantly-
- the philosophy is mostly very good-
- there is an element of girly romance novel in the treatment of powerful industrialist-
- there is an element of science fiction in the machinery and the magical valley that has everything-

i put it in the "must read" category of books.
It's worth reading.

It’s one of the most influential books of all time. Supposedly. :)
It’s never been out of print. And this is a great time to read it.

It changed my life, but I was ready for it. So be careful. ;)

As to the story, just remember it’s fiction. It’s philosophy in story form.

We have several copies of the book in the breakroom at work. It's free for employees to checkout. When things start getting closer to normal I ought to borrow a copy.

It's quite a tome, and seems like a fairly intimidating read.

It's on my list for eventual reading, but fairly low. I probably should take the current opportunity and make attempt #4 at getting through War and Peace.

Another in the "recommended" and "good book" column. I've re-read it a number of times and have enjoyed it each time.

Hey great, thanks for the feedback. I kind of figured that the negative things I had read were from people who I probably wouldn't agree with on most things.

I've already read about 5% of the book and have mostly enjoyed it. If it's like most longish classics I've read, it probably just gets better from here. I will keep going based on all of the positive comments from you guys. I just didn't want to waste my time if it wasn't worth it.

Would the Well-Read on this forum provide lists of must-read books? Actually, not really a question.

Let's assume we've all read Craig and Jim's book.

Having gone through Harry Browne, Jean Shepherd (The Christmas Story guy), Twain, Michener, Uris, Wouk, and Steinbeck, I need more.

Thanks.

Heinlein is right up there if you enjoy a dose of philosophy with your sci-fi.

There are points where the book drags on and it doesn’t seem like much happens. But push through.
