I could do a search on Bruce Campbell but I'm sure I'd find many which would not tell me which Bruce Campbell the two of you are referencing.

I am assuming it is not the Bruce "Soupy" Campbell who played basketball for Providence College in the 70s?

I saw Bruce Campbell in that X-Files episode he's in. You know, the one where he plays that demon who's trying to have a normal baby, but can't?

I saw him and I was like... "Tex? Whatcha doin' there???"

Hahahaha he's the actor who's in MediumTex's forum profile pic. I was rereading the original PP thread recently and was reminded of the whole thing.

That original discussion I realize now was a moment in time that no forum will likely ever get back. It's back when people on the Bogleheads forum were less dogmatic, more political discussion was allowed, and there was less of an echo chamber of opinion. Everyone was contributing to a spirited argument but in a positive way. And of course the backdrop of a serious bear market in stocks coincided with the discussion which spurred incredible interest. When I read that original thread there's a feeling of nostalgia similar to looking at old college party photos or something. Good times that are in the past now.
I still find the James Rickards portfolio fascinating.

Cool. I don't remember that even though I've been watching some X-Files again lately.
I do remember him playing the President in some incredible show. Maybe 'Fargo' or 'Better Call Saul'.
Edit: Fargo - he played Reagan.

Harry Browne books are the “Presence” of your household, or rather The Object featured in the Led Zeppelin ‘Presence’ album cover art.

Spotted at the coin dealer’s shop (yes, a coin dealer had this) in West Edmonton Mall — the biggest mall in Canada.

Sure has been quiet around these parts lately. I hope everyone is okay. Maybe we need to start a Komodo Dragon thread to go with the cats and dogs. I know a woman that used to have one for a pet.

I stick with cats and rodents for pets because compared to a lot of other pets they are quite low maintenance.

No one responded to you. I just read this in today's daily baseball newsletter:

Great Moments in Being Super Goddamn Racist

Great Moment Number One: A Minnesota state legislator dropping a slur against Polish people in a speech about how the Republican Party isn’t bigoted; and

Great Moment Number Two: “Dilbert” cartoonist Scott Adams setting his career on fire after ranting on a podcast about Black Americans being a “hate group” and saying that White people should “get the hell away from” them.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/media/20 ... gn=wp_main

As for Scott Adams, well, this seems almost overdue. That guy has been descending into the kind of crazy that the scientists at The Institute for the Understanding of F’ Crazy People have only just begun to research, the cure for which will never come and the treatment for which is still decades in the future.

Less flippantly: while I am quick to dismiss the arguments of people who look at hateful racists and assume that they’re mentally ill bigotry is not listed ass a symptom of any mental illness listed in the DSM-5 I do actually wonder if Adams is legitimately not well.

He got all that press a few years ago for being right about Trump and occasionally bubbles up to the surface with some gross tweet, gross comment, or gross new development in his comic strip, but if you look at his Twitter feed or writings on his website or what have you in anything approaching depth you can’t shake the feeling that there is something really off about him. There’s a paranoia to him that does not seem performative like it does in your typical right wing grifter. There are fixations that are as singular as they are disturbing. There’s a marked vacillation between detachment and passion that is unsettling in the extreme. In the words of the great psychiatrist Hank Hill, that boy ain’t right.

But, as I’ve said countless times in this space, we are what we do, so screw ‘em.

I have to say, the Wash Post writer got a lot of things wrong. He may have gotten everything wrong. I don’t know, because I don’t follow Scott Adams, but he did not “set his career on fire.” He knew exactly what he was doing, and he’s independently wealthy. Lost some dying newspapers (not for the first time), gained subscriptions online.

He walked back the racism in the 2nd and 3rd videos, although he must have known that the first video was going to blow up. Perhaps he wanted the attention. (Yes, for whatever reason, I wached all 3 in their entirety).

Is he unhinged? That, I don’t know. Maybe, maybe not.

It's usually useful (in some way shape or form) to reverse situations and see how that plays out.

Suppose a poll had said that 30% of whites disagreed with the statement "it's OK to be black", and Jesse Jackson (or whoever) said that given the circumstances, black people might want to avoid white people.

Who would be condemned in that scenario?

Answer: white people again O0
• In the current environment, it appears to be perfectly socially acceptable to be racist against white people. We are “the oppressors” after all. /s
• White people are tripping over themselves to label other white people as racist. One form of virtue signaling, I guess.
• Elon Musk commented (under an Adams tweet or an Adams-related tweet) that the media is racist toward whites and Asians. I have to agree.

Still, I think it was a bit of trolling the way Adams waited until the next day to walk it back. I think he wanted it to play out this way.

Excellent!

However, I was only able to go back as far as Lincoln, though I did see the poster that had all of them.
