One of the things I miss about the old days was the boatload of discrete components that one could fawn over and customize to no end. Now everything is moving to SoC designs, and it makes the modern computer look more like an appliance rather than something to truly tinker with. I remember back in the day that I had endless conversations about different heatsinks, sound cards, and even fans. Now I'm typing on a laptop that I can't even open without a special screwdriver.

At least I can still tinker with software.
There should be more kits than just the Raspberry Pi. And there should be computers for old people.

I got some of my friends into my little All-Terrain Portfolio creation.

One side effect of DIY ETF investing is that they now see all the dividends, interest, and how the money is actually invested. With their previous financial advisor everything was an opaque wall of paper statements and confusing terms the guy was using to obfuscate the reality of fees and complexity. They seem much happier knowing what's actually going on with their money with the transparency. It's a side effect I hadn't really considered.

^ Excellent ^

How hard was it to get into Ukraine?
If you hadn’t yet tied the knot, you couldn’t say you were visiting family. I’m sure there are tons of Canadian passport holders who visit Ukraine every day because of the diaspora population. But, were there a lot of forms?

Oh, good question!

It honestly wasn't hard, and there were literally no forms. It's just nerve wracking more than anything as Ukrainian border security is extremely vigilant about potential Russian spies.

To get in and out of Ukraine we took a train and then a bus respectively from Budapest to Mukachevo. There are multiple checkpoints where border security frisks you pretty good, inspects your documents, and ask terse questions about what you're doing there. As long as you pass the "sniff test", you're good to go.

You've been to Ukraine, yeah?

I haven’t. I found Russian passport control mildly intimidating. Compared to that of other countries, anyway.
Prewar, a friend of mine went to Ukraine for genealogical research. My cousin went for the same reason.

I shouldn’t use twitter as a source though it is photographic evidence. London has Ramadan street lighting and no Easter signs whatsover. That’s … weird.

X is unparalleled in many ways.

It will have instant information on many matters wherein if you do an internet search on them you will find nothing.

It makes search engines look like yesterday's newspapers.

Welp, I guess this means I'm signing up for a Twitter (X) account.

That must mean you just view by your feed and do not create separate lists?

The X algorithm will get you on the feed; not on a list.

I often search for certain topics and view that way.
And, I look up people whom I follow but who are not in the feed for whatever reason.

The way you search is an excellent use of X.

You don't get people you follow because of the way the X algorithms present things to you.

I don't know how many you follow but you could try an experiment.

Create a list which is an exact parallel, duplicate of those you are following.

Then compare what is showing up in your feed versus your list.

I can almost guarantee that the list will be more satisfying to you.

Again, for me, I only follow those who follow me. I almost never look at what is coming in via my feed. I only look at what is coming in via my various lists.

I follow three sports teams and have put many, many, many people on lists for each of those teams. When I want to be in contact with other fans of those teams whether it be for while the game is going on or for any other reason .... those lists are invaluable. I think I've put 1,200 people into the list for one of the teams.

I don’t think I’ve ever created a list from within twitter. I thought those were for other people to read.
I’ve only bookmarked people I want to check up on if they don’t come up in my feed. I should try that. A google search confirms what you said. it reads
X Lists allow you to customize, organize and prioritize the posts you see in your timeline.
Edit: I do have some old lists. I must have forgotten about them and moved on.

One thing I’ve noticed is that if I give attention to one person’s tweets, they feed me a whole ton of their tweets instead of moving on to the next person, even if others have posted more recently. I don’t like that.

It doesn’t matter, though, because I try not to spend too much time on the platform. The people there are hateful and crazy O0

You are welcome. Of course, I agree that it is the ONLY way to view incoming tweets on a regular basis.

There are some people & orgs whom I cannot add to a list.
Some lists are also maxing out. I guess this glitch is why I abandoned lists in the past. I’ll have to retry on the desktop.

I have used them extensively.

I've never not been allowed to put anyone on a list.

I have maxed out how many I can put on a list. But that number is quite big - 5,000. I've only hit that limit with two of my lists.

Never have. Someday.
I’ll be out of town soon and when I get back, I hope to get back into python. Also want to build a PC this spring — nothing powerful or liquid cooled. O0 Just something with a lot of RAM that will last a while and dual-boot Windows and Linux.

Whenever you get the hankering, the Learn Enough platform has a super good Rails tutorial and a 7 day free trial. Just cancel before the 7 days are up and you won't pay a dime.

We could be Rails buddies!

...Okay, that sounded weird.
