Amazingly enough, that is the new policy now - because so many health care workers are getting exposed to COVID19 that there would be nobody left to do the work if all of them self-quarantined.

Our instructions are to wear a mask and gloves while treating patients if we've been exposed, but continue to work. ONE mask is provided on request which has to be reused and treated more or less like the One Ring. We only contact the hospital and stay home if we develop symptoms. Once symptom free for 3 days, it's back to work.

The kid going to day care is a bit concerning - but what's the alternative? Hi, I'm trying to hire a nanny to take care of a kid who's potentially been exposed to COVID19...any takers?

Would putting packages out in the bright sunlight help kill the virus? It's already very bright here at 29 N latitude.

Doubt it would be very effective - would not disinfect all surfaces.

Now I am 40 years out of date, but they used to use gas sterilization in field hospitals if I remember correctly.

UV-C lamps are used in biomedical labs for that purpose. They're quite affordable.

Canada is finally joining the U.S. in the QE party by starting its own QE program.

This may lead to a global monetary crisis. Or, maybe, after 12 months we'll be back to business as usual. ::)

You very well could be right. I wonder if, in the not too distant future, our descendants will marvel at the relatively long period around the turn of the 2nd millennium in which we enjoyed life largely free of infections.

Sunlight/airing does help, yes. Dunno about a guarantee, but the more you do/the longer you wait, the less likely the surviving virus will be enough to infect you. I somehow doubt that you can get a clinical infection from touching a cardboard box or a doorknob days after some virus particles got on it. If that were the case we'd all have COVID by now.

Some more news from Cuomo's address this am:

the new case/total case ratio in NY for today is now 18% - down from 26% yesterday and 31% the day before that. Headed in the right direction.

I couldn't quite reconcile this with Cuomo's prediction that the curve of case increases is steepening, and that as a result NY will be in a real crisis in the next week or two. He is right that he needs help now and is not getting it, and is begging the feds to get their collective butts in gear. I am given to wonder just what the heck FEMA is doing, or why BOTH of those hospital ships aren't coming to NY, and why they're taking so dang long to get here.

Both gold and stocks skyrocketed today.

To me it seems that might imply the market thinks that yes, the stimulus efforts should boost the economy. However, it may also incite inflation.

Do any of your engage in Freecycle where you live?

You basically give things for free or ask for things for free.

This is how the virus has affected people's emails to give:

OFFER: 90+ DVD-R 120-min 4.7GB discs

More than 90 Memorex, Sony, Playo unused DVD-R 120-min 4.7GB discs.
Contactless pickup. I'd leave them on our front steps.

I did once, when we had to get rid of some furniture before a temporary move.
Two strong lesbians lifted a maple computer desk like it was nothing. A male friend and I had struggled with it.

I've used it on both ends -- giving and receiving.

I was going to say that I don't even have a computer with an optical disk drive anymore.

Then I remembered that ancient e-machines computer on top of that bookshelf from the other thread.

Anyone know IF somehow this virus got on food and then that food was microwaved the microwaving would it kill it?

Can any living thing on food survive being microwaved?

I’ve read a lot of things that say microwaving doesn’t kill much of anything, not even the bacteria that cause food to spoil.
Viruses- no idea. Psychologically, it certainly feels good.

Then when I read that you should periodically put your kitchen sponge in a microwave to kill what is on it....that does not do anything (aside from intensely dry it out)?

I read all kinds of advice about microwaving sponges and my wife still does it. Maybe if the water you dampen it with steams the germs away? i would buy that.

I kind of boil the sponges in a pot that I’m going to wash. The hot water makes it easy to clean the pot as well.

P.S. Even in pre-Coronial times, I favored paper towels over sponges. It’s bad for the landfills, I know, but I just don’t trust sponges unless they’re fairly new, or if I’m working with something like bleach. I was happy to find a blog called “A cleaning lady talks dirty.” She’s the same as me.
