I just attempted to attach a file to a private message I was sending to someone here.

I was informed that I cannot attach a file with a PDF extension.

Can I find a list somewhere here which tells which extensions are allowed / not allowed?

By default, only images are allowed to be attached, and those only to posts not to PMs. I've loosened things up so that documents can also be attached (including PDF), and allowed attachments to PMs.
