What Do You Do For Work?
What does everyone on the forum here do for work?
I am a web and software developer and am totally in love with coding. Educationally, my real love was always math, but programming just ended up being the my favourite way to apply it I think.
Honestly, I've gotten a lot of inspiration from Craig's work in the IT field. I figure I actually owe a lot to the guy. Both my adoption of the PP as well as my bolstered interest in technology comes from him.

I have both an undergraduate and masters degrees in accounting. That's what I've been doing since the 70s. Mostly as the in-house accounting / finance person for businesses / organizations but I also did work for a CPA firm for 9 years.Smith1776 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 2:03 pmWhat does everyone on the forum here do for work?

Currently I am the part-time (almost full-time) finance director for a non-profit and also have some private accounting / other work in addition to that.
For various reasons I studied from 1985 - 1988 to get my CFP (certified financial professional) designation in 1988. I've been a non-practicing one from the day I earned it because my other work has kept me so occupied.
I do spend far more time, though, engaged in reading regarding personal finance / investing than accounting (almost none).

Re: What Do You Do For Work?
i have neuropathy in the tips of my fingers from diabetic damage ... but so far i have no issues playing drums . the sticks basically float and pivot between the thumb and side of the index finger .. the stick runs down the hollow line of the hand without touching much . the first joints in the fingers bob the stick not the pads of the finger
i have it in my toes too and the brake pedal on the car in traffic kills me at times . yet again , no problem with the foot work ..... i started learning finger techniques and i am hoping i have no issues . so far so good as the sticks bounce around the first joint which does not effect me . the area is heavily calloused too which helps.
i put in about 2 hours a day and i am surprised myself that it totally bypasses the soreness .
the only thing that does hit the sore spots is twirling sticks so no twirling .

As a big music fan, can you give any more details of your music career? Who you have played with who we may know? Types of music? hal was an unsung hero ... he was one of the most famous drummers no one heard of . he was on more hits and recordings than likely any other session drummer. kind of like steve gadd before he started touring with the big names .dualstow wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 3:59 pmAre you replacing Hal Blaine? Re: What Do You Do For Work?
my personal choice is funk . i love stuff like the average white band , vulfpeck , brian culbertson , lettuce .....the linear style of drumming this music requires has my 67 year old brain working over time as it has so many different things going on at the same time .
but we don't always get to play what we like ... currently i am doing early 1970's rock but more what was top 40 stuff back then since that is what these artists were known for .

Re: What Do You Do For Work?
Had never heard of Lettuce until I saw them be the headliners in 2018 for one of the nights of a festival I was at. I saw they certainly had their fans and they were an unexpected pleasant surprise.mathjak107 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 4:27 pmmy personal choice is funk . i love stuff like the average white band , vulfpeck , brian culbertson , lettuce .....the linear style of drumming this music requires has my 67 year old brain working over time as it has so many different things going on at the same time .

I can only think of the Average White Band and their only (?) hit - Pick Up the Pieces. Nothing else.
Never heard of either Vulfpeck or Brian Culbertson. But on your (implied) recommendation I will listen to some of each tonight.

Re: What Do You Do For Work?
I have heard of (and listened to) Tommy Campbell's Uncle - Jimmy Smith. But had never heard of Tommy Campbell's name until now. But from reading this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Campbell_(musician) this I see he has played with some big-time musicians.mathjak107 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 4:47 pmSee ,that is why he is the most famous drummer no one heard of .
