Worked today and went to the gym.

-Had one guy insist on doing the elbow thing instead of shaking hands
- one of my coworkers bought 2 bottles of hand sanitizer for 30 dollars
- in the public bathroom every guy was washing their hands obsessively
- covid-19 notices of potential closure at the mall and rec centre
- every conversation I overheard in the food court was about the virus
- one of my coworkers is sick after travelling and is self-isolating

Holy shit this thing is taking over all of public consciousness.

My hospital sent out a notice last night that they are cancelling all elective procedures. Pugchief, if you wanted that knee replacement you'd better get it quick.

I'm also checking in with my mom daily, and guiding her to ordering groceries online from Fresh Direct. She's doing very well so far.

I think you may have mentioned that as an example (and not you, friends?) in regards to comparing Canada's health care system to ours.

I think that I have disclosed that three towns in the county to the south of mine have closed their schools for three weeks (no reported cases). And, in the town next to mine (same county, also no reported cases) schools are closed for next week. The technical school in my town is closed for next week but I have not yet heard anything regarding the public schools in my town. However, this past week has had such rapid developments that I've not been able to stay on top of all. Plus, I've not yet looked at yesterday or today's newspapers.

What is school situation for everyone else here?

The schools here (Central Indiana) are out until at least April 13th. Two weeks of online classes, a week of no school, then a week of spring break. No sports, clubs, or other activities at all during that time.

My mother is a retired teacher in a rural area (Vermont) and the schools are staying open (but no extra activities) because there simply are not enough alternatives for daycare, etc. and most parents work.

K-12 closed one week starting Monday, 3/16.
I'd be shocked if they didn't extend the closure.
Four (?) will be providing food (pickup only)
(Lunch/breakfast I think)
Community college doing all classes online starting Monday, 3/16.
Spring break the following week.
No idea what their longer term plans are
Campus "Open", but some services,like cafeteria, closed.
Others with reduced hiurs
Local University suspended in-person instructions indefinitely.
Finals will be online.
Campus is Open.

I live about 1/2 hour from the Vermont border. A lot of demographics in our county are similar to Vermont's.

He says he won't close the schools because it would instantly make it impossible for many people to work. NYC schools are considered to be a form of day care plus soup kitchen (many kids get all their meals at schools). The meal thing is a bit of overreach, but I can understand the argument that it would put a lot of people out of work. My brother is in that position: he is a single father of 2 kids (ages 5 and , and his kids' schools just closed. He has his own business (architecture) with a small handful of employees, and is wondering how he's going to be able to keep things going. He'll have to hire a nanny I guess - but then, his income is likely to go down as I bet not a lot of home renovations are on the radar right now.

Here in Southern California, both Los Angeles Unified and San Diego Unified school districts announced yesterday that they’ll be closed for the rest of the month. I think other school districts are rapidly following suit, too.

I work part-time for a large athletic clothing retailer in Vancouver.

We are having severely reduced hours from our normal operating times of 7:30am to 2am. We are now down to 11am to 7pm. Additionally, all head office employees are now working from home if possible.

As a computer science student and programmer that part of my life was basically made for this mode of operation.

All my acting, music, and stand up gigs are being either postponed or outright cancelled.

We're being told that 30% to 70% of Canadians are likely to contract the virus before all is said and done.

Will staying home for 3 days, or 14 for that matter, make any difference after going thru the airport? Is everyone just planning to stay home for the next 2 weeks, or only those over 70?

I don't expect that to happen until June, unless an extremely effective treatment not involving ventilators is developed immediately.

I take no medications. The last time I applied for life insurance (7 years ago), I was in the "preferred best" risk category.
My wife takes a few medications but she wouldn't die without them. She was in "preferred plus" 7 years ago.

We are within the normal weight range and rarely get sick.

So overall I would say we are probably in the top 1% of our age range and probably in the top 10% overall.

But we can stay home and don't want to add to the burdens that the health care system is about to experience.

Becoming homebodies is a good plan. Taking international vacations, not so much....MangoMan glad you're back, but I respectfully suggest a 14 day hiatus before you see patients (or visit elderly relatives).

There was a physician in NJ who came back from a vacation and saw clinic patients for a day before being diagnosed with COVID19. Fortunately, he wore a mask and gloves, but the patients were put into quarantine anyway. I imagine they were not pleased. Don't be that guy.

There has been 4 confirmed cases in the town of 100,000, that I live in.
So 4 people have been walking around exposing others before having been confirmed.
My wife and I are under 70, but also fortunately retired.
I will be a home body until I see what progresses over the next 2 weeks.

Update as of yesterday in Massachusetts. 138 cases. 104 from the Biogen conference. In all of western MA (rural) there are only the 9 in Berkshire county. None yet in my county or the surrounding ones.
