Considering Vanguard Portfolio

Post by Fradika »

Friends,

I'm considering the following Vanguard portfolio (equal weight):

VTI
VGLT
VGSH
IAU

How would the above compare to a standard PP:

VTI
BIL
TLT
IAU

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

In my Vanguard account, I do basically that with some minor differences.  I use VOO instead of VTI (personal preference).  For my long bonds, I primarily hold long-term treasuries directly inside of Vanguard, rather than buying bond funds.  For the slop/leftovers of my bond allocation (primarily for when I've contributed to my bond allocation, but not enough to buy a bond), I use a mix of VGLT and EDV.

Ideally you should try to hold some gold directly, just in case something really really bad happens. But otherwise no major issues here. The selected Vanguard funds (plus IAU) fit the bill.
