I doubt this will come to market in my lifetime, which is good for my portfolio.
But getting access to such a mother lode would be very good for industry, as the precious metals are very useful in industrial applications.
Unlike Bitcoin, for example.

When I saw that headline the only thing I could think of was that someone has a serious problem understanding the fundamental laws of economics - namely supply and demand and the scarcity of resources. This probably doesn't include Ron Paul. I doubt that he'd be celebrating the fact that his gold holdings were going to become worthless.Kriegsspiel wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 8:59 pm NASA headed towards giant golden asteroid that could make everyone on Earth a billionaire.

Totally agree. "Everyone's about to be a billionaire because we now have a bunch of gold." If you think about it for two seconds it's obvious it wouldn't work that way.jacksonM wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 4:53 pmWhen I saw that headline the only thing I could think of was that someone has a serious problem understanding the fundamental laws of economics - namely supply and demand and the scarcity of resources. Re: NASA headed towards giant golden asteroid
It is only a matter of time before asteroid mining becomes economical and practically feasible.
When that time comes, who knows how we might have to reconsider the value of gold. I could even see a De Beers type situation where the gold is held back and kept artificially scarce.

I think the headline is just playfully facetious and also clickbaity/eye-catching in the way that headlines have always been.

Yeah it's fake news. They are going for scientific research. NASA is not a mining company.

"Everyone's about to be a billionaire because we now have a bunch of gold."
Accounting for inflation, that'll be worth $42.00.
