IAU is now commission-free at Fidelity

Fidelity's recent big move included an icing on the cake that hasn't gotten the same level of publicity as their new zero-fee funds - the dramatic expansion of the list of commission-free ETFs. They bumped it up to 240 from 70.

And here's the good news for PP investors: IAU is on the list. :D

Nice! I've always wished IAU was on the list, and they fixed it just in time to top off my portfolio. :D

Top off you say?
If you don’t mind, exchanging from SCV to IAU or contributing from cash?

Wow, between this, FZROX, and the T-bill auto-roll feature, Fidelity is looking like a great broker for PP investors.

Just sold my home and had a nice new chunk of change to invest. O0

Of course not, D. He obviously moved in with a hot babe who was excited about Portfolio Charts!

Luckily I've been married to her for a while. ;)

No van. Just a pretty sweet apartment with zero maintenance and a downtown view.

Just curious,
did you make this move because you think real estate is overvalued/peaked, and are planning to get back in after the next melt down? Or did you just no longer want to deal with the inevitable headaches of home ownership?
None of the above. Although I admit that not having any yardwork when it's 100 degrees out is kinda nice.

Long story short, we decided that our home in the suburbs was a nice retreat when we were working full time but is a little too sleepy now that we're FI and have more time and energy to get out more. So we sold it and rented a cool place downtown within walking distance to pretty much everything. Life is good.

Sounds like a great choice! Now you just have to be careful not to spend too much of your GB on all the good food and beverages available.
The beauty of the GB (or PP) is the consistency of the income to fund the things you care about most. Fortunately beer & BBQ are relatively cheap vices in the grand scheme of things. :)

Gold is up plenty today, but IAU is only up 0.28%? :'(

DS, what CNBC report can be and most often is different from the daily NAV change in IAU. Reason is CNBC quotes the comex close (I think around 11:30 PT) and ETFs trade until market close. So...if we saw a large move in gold between 11:30 and 1PM CNBC would reflect that gain in their price the next morning.
