This might be the biggest jump in the price of gold I've seen in one day since I started the PP. (+1.67%)
Now my overall gold holdings are only down 7.39% since the time of purchase (starting in 2011 - a very bad year with another to follow).

Gold may move back down with stocks moving back up, but the pp really does provide a smooth ride for the most part. As advertised.

Re: The GOLD scream room
If it truly is because of North Korea, we can expect it to drop back shortly.
However, gold is starting to feel a bit different lately. A little stronger. I need to see it hold 1300 for a few weeks before I get excited.
But it certainly has helped smooth the pp out for sure. New 2017 high for me today.

We shall see, but essentially it has gone exactly nowhere since Feb 2016 bouncing mainly between 1200 and 1300.Cortopassi wrote:If it truly is because of North Korea, we can expect it to drop back shortly.

Last month, I thought I had plenty of time to set up a new checking account from which to buy gold. Oops. No complaints here, though.Cortopassi wrote:Ahhh...one of those days to kick back and watch bonds and gold overcome the stock market downturn....at least for now...

Yeah my comment was before an auction this morning where treasuries were a little subdued even with almost a 1% decline in the S&P. Rallied late in the day just fine.

k
Makes me sick to ever have found this portfolio.
That was raw emotion this morning after 14 hours of migrating our enterprise reporting environment to AWS.
Such crap...same for treasuries.Cortopassi wrote:It is all so predictable. Latest threat from N. Korea is "over." Run the slam gold algorithm...

Takes bow and exists stage right...
Leave on a good note...
Reminds me next time to take profits in Gold and Treasuries when they arise.
I considered it this go-around but the $ amounts aren't large enough to warrant trading (e.g. remove 100K to cash from 500K Gold holding and it moves down 10%, your 100K lost 0K but your 400K lost 40K. You end up savings yourself 10K/500K or a 2% loss but you still lost 40K or 8% of total, incl. cash.). Just doesn't seem worthwhile.

Except for a few hours during the Brexit vote, my gold holdings have been in the red since 2013...buddtholomew wrote:Reminds me next time to take profits in Gold
Sure would like to see it go above and stay above $1350 in my lifetime again...
Re: The GOLD scream room
I doubt other portfolios would be less maddening overall, but gold is the worst asset to watch. My backtest spreadsheet shows 52% positive months between January 1971 and April 2016. Back and forth, back and forth. And, yes, budd, it really stinks when gold and bonds are tracking together.

Re: The GOLD scream room
And the rise is now attributed to Trump disbanding the CEO group, at least on a couple sites. Sure. Ok. I'll take it anyway.

Re: The GOLD scream room
Why do some of those cheesy gold ads on tv say they're selling gold "at cost" ?
Isn't that false advertising?
