I like your avatar dualstow. Kin Kura Pilsner (5%) beer. A intriguing logo of gold (roof) and integrated western KURA.

Agree, I could sell some of the gold to fund a Social Security substitute from retirement to age 70. I retire in 32 months, will take Social Security at 70. Let's hope it's broken out to the upside in 32 months.

actually over most time frames equities and gold has beaten equities and bonds for more than 2 decades …if anything i wouldn’t single gold out for spending .

kind of crazy that bonds which pays interest have not kept up with equities and gold as far as a balanced portfolio goes

Many people know about the seizure of U.S. citizens’ gold in the 1930’s, but do you know how much the cash compensation was?

I think I may have read about it a few times. But I'm guessing it was not much.

It was definitely full value, as defined by the definition of the dollar in terms of gold. $28/oz? $35/oz? Something like that.

Like $20 and change. 20.67? That was the rate at the time.

Yeah it was a sly move on the part of the Big G.

Buy everyone's gold at $20.67 then immediately revalue gold up (and the dollar down) to $35/oz. :o

As I write, both the gold futures (CNBC) and the spot price (bid, actually) (AJPM) read US$2040/oz

I just noticed that this topic has had over 1.3 million views! That is a lot considered how many active participants are here.

Is there anywhere available the top ten topics with the most views? I'm sure the Covid one would be in there.

Dualstow, fine for you to move this into its own topic but then it seems like it'd lose its context?

Chinese investors and households have been buying gold as a refuge from property and stock market mayhem, helping support record prices for the haven asset.

I've recently taken to purchasing gold bars/coins that are encased in protective plastic. I get a little nervous at the idea of purchasing naked gold that could get shellacked at any moment.

Wouldn’t you rather check them out and encase them yourself?

The couple stores I go to both are gracious enough to let me see Sigma Metalytics test results before I walk out the door. O0
