Could you make your point without the demeaning regional sound effects intended to paint libertarians as backward illiterates? This has been going on for quite some time, and I'm tired of it.

I don't know who you think you are. Believe it or not, well educated people from all regions of the country regard freedom as the value most important in their lives. I wish I had access to that memorable clip from "Goodwill Hunting" where the intellectually superior graduate student gets knocked down a few notches--in front of a girl. That's about how intelligent you sound to me when you pull out that "knuckle dragger" stuff.

Censorship waited until the House and the Senate were both on their side. Smart move.

Parler is dead if AWS decides to tear up the hosting contract. It's in Bezos' hands.

Scary stuff. We are going to end up with two different economies in the same country. Banking will be next now.

I'm in Texas. When I use the term FREEDUMS in jest, it's meant to be a parody of actual freedom which is quite precious. People in our modern day are deeply confused about confuse freedom versus license. They are not the same. This is a flaw in the Baby Boomer and later character - permissiveness - if it feels good, do it.

When someone demands that a person provide them a good or service, and the other party simply does not wish to, but the demander manages to coerce the provider to provide, then they have abused the concept of freedom in order to accomplish something like theft. One party has gained what they think is freedom (but is really license) but the other party has genuinely lost some freedom. So net-net, it's a loss.

I refer you to the second verse of one of our great national songs. America The Beautiful (1904 version)

O beautiful for pilgrim feet,
Whose stern, impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

It's an old-fashioned Victorian notion, in this stanza of the poem by Katherine Lee Bates. It is the concept that self-control is important to the body politic, and we experience liberty by being bound up and bound together as a society by our laws.

But they way people are now? Huh, not likely. We live antithetically to that quaint notion now. That's why we have so many lawyers. Because we all have wants, and we fight and fight to get what we want, and society just ends up being like the Survivor TV show. That's one reason why it's so stressful living in today's society.

Google and Apple remove Parler.
CNN urges cable companies to drop Fox News.
An email company drops the Trump account.
I’m sure we’ll be hearing urging of ISPs and what, backbone companies to block pro Trump sites.
Yeah, this is just fine. Not scary at all. I’m sure it will calm the nerves of Trump voters too. Not make them feel they were right all along. This could be a classic case where winning the battle leads to losing the war. The Democrats are salting the soil.

This combined with the urgent efforts to remove Trump make me wonder if they fear a dump of declassified materials or something. But why would they care? They now control the press. The Hunter laptop proved that already.

I’ve been making two predictions. One, the Democrats will now implode. Two, the country will split. Let’s see.

While the results may be scaring people, with the potential loss of freedoms, this was all under Trump's control.

Nov 4th -- I will give it to him he shouldn't have conceded, and he was in his rights to demand legal action and recounts.

Multiple times along the way, in many judicial processes that he lost, he could have conceded.

You may, (and I know some do) 100% say that evidence wasn't allowed to be shown, or whatever else. But to my "blue" pill eyes, every legal remedy was afforded to Trump, all the way to the Supreme Court.

If he would have conceded at some point, he'd still have his Twitter account. And there likely wouldn't have been a storming of the Capitol.

I know there's no convincing some. Fine.

All I ask you recognize over the next few months and years that hey, we haven't become communist. Hey, we are bringing civility back at least a little bit. Hey, Covid did not disappear when Biden won.

And maybe consider that hey, maybe Biden did win fair and square, or at least without widespread fraud.

Again, I’m not sure why the Parler folks thought that was a good idea. Seems like a rookie mistake.

Maybe it’s a good thing AWS didn’t get that big DOD contract...

I don't think this kills Parler, it just means there is now an opportunity for someone to come in and compete with the bigs on hosting by selling themselves as willing to host all companies. It's crazy at a time when there is so much competition for this space to allow a competitor into the mix.

Is this not one of the major Libertarian principles in a nutshell and what is constantly preached in this forum by the Libertarian Utopianists here?

It seems like we are testing the boundaries of the first amendment.

(CNN)The CEO of Parler, a social media platform popular among conservatives, told Mediaite that it removed a post from attorney Lin Wood calling for Vice President Mike Pence to be executed by "firing squads."

"Yes, some of his parleys that violated our rules were taken down," John Matze told Mediaite, specifying that the post, or parley, about the "firing squads" was among those removed.

Wood, a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, told CNN, "I made NO threat. I do not believe in violence. I do believe in the rule of law."

"I have reliable evidence that Pence has a engaged in acts of treason. My comments were rhetorical hyperbole. Any journalist should understand that concept. If my information is accurate, law enforcement will address what punishment, if any, should be administered to Pence as they do with all criminals," Wood said.
Wood posted on Parler on Thursday, according to Mediate, "They let them in. Get the firing squads ready. Pence goes FIRST."

Seems to me that no one is censoring what is here?

https://www.theepochtimes.com/parler-ce ... 21-01-10-1

Why all of a sudden the conservative / right / Republican / Trump supporters call for socialism in the form of advocating government action or takeover of private companies? As was so well stated here by someone else...they just want THEIR way! Not freedom for the private companies.

I think some crazy conspiracy-minded people think a communist take-over is in the works and these private companies are in on it. They are trying to silence the president and opposition right at the critical moment and keep the American people completely in the dark about what's happening.

I'm not saying that's what's happening Vinny, but I am certain a lot of people think that's what's happening. All of a sudden in the last two months the silencing of opposition to the supposed election results and any favorable coverage or content of Trump or his people, or negative info about Biden and the other side has been squelched.

There has been a power struggle for control of the US government and 100% of the Television and print media and 100% of the few major tech companies have completely thrown in on one side.

I am sure the liberty-minded folks don't want government control of the internet. They are just grasping at straws for how to keep their voices heard online at the moment and the easiest path to solve any problem is to petition the government. That's why lefty's minds go their instantly for everything.

Yet when it comes down to it...the conservatives / the right / the Republicans / the Trump supporters seem to, without fail, behave EXACTLY as they are are ALWAYS accusing the other side of behaving. Which means all those accusations ring hollow and those accusers reveal themselves to have little integrity and are incapable of living up to their espoused principles.

You left out that the radio media seems to have thrown their weight to one side with their 90 million per week listeners compared to the only 7 million per listeners to the other side.

Many, including me, believe that it was way past time to the media finally waking up to how skillfully Trump had been playing and using them to is main purposes. Which is, as always, whatever is best for Trump.

What these PRIVATE companies have just recently done is way past due Years past due.

Why do you think the EXECUTIVES at the PUBLICLY OWNED companies all waited until RIGHT now to move from shadow bans to outright, ALL at the same time?

Think they coordinated it? Didn't dorsey or zuckerberg just admit to congress along with youtube that they share their ban lists with each other and coordinate their banning?

Any thoughts on that?

What is an effective form of public dissent today? One that won't be immediately shut down. Does any exist?

Assume that the dissenter has views and opinions repugnant to a large percentage of the population.
The other sort of opinions don't require protection.

That's easy. Run for Speaker of the House, or for that matter, any Swamp (in particular, Democratic) office. ;D

Because after Wednesday's events they all finally woke up to the seriousness of how they'd all become complicit in all of Donald Trump's perfidy by not dealing with matter far sooner, as they should have.

Those are MY thoughts!

If these censorship moves end up destroying the monopolies these tech giants have will it have been a good business move?

My guess is that they must have considered this and decided to do it any way for probably one or both of two reasons....

1.) With their friends now in charge of the whole government they figured it wasn't much of a threat and they will, in fact help them maintain their monopoly as long as they remain friends.

2.) The people who run these companies are true ideologues that have more money than God and it isn't going to hurt them very much if it does happen.

If you want to tell me they did it for the good of the shareholders I don't believe that.
