Has anyone ever tried using your own algorithm trading? I have an idea that I want to try. If anyone knows a company that allows you to do this let me know and I would also want to the ability to make fake trades to test out the algorithm. And last thing - it could be a lot of trades - like 100 to a 1000 trades a day.
There was something called quantopia but I think it closed down.

If you are a programmer, Interactive Brokers (IBKR) has an API to control its Trader Workstation app. It also has a more serious API that bypasses the app and goes straight to their servers. Their whole business model is high volume trading.
IBKR also supports a paper trading account in addition to your real account.
Caveat Emptor: I assume you understand just how badly this will go against you if you make any sort of mistake in judgement or execution.

Re: Algorithmic trading
Thanks that’s very helpful. It would be with zero leverage with a large cash reserve. So the most I could lose is what was at risk which would not be much to start.

Man, stressful enough being at a job selling electronic products that have firmware bugs we have to fix. I don't know how involved these financial algorithms get but I assume you'll be able to do this in a paper account for a while just in case there's a if/then that sends you in a direction you didn't expect...!
Re: Algorithmic trading
Paper trading definitely to start with. Then if I even get to that point AND it goes well. Small money trading. Then who knows.Cortopassi wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 1:28 pm Man, stressful enough being at a job selling electronic products that have firmware bugs we have to fix. Everyone around me at my current company has at one point or another. I am pretty much the only 40-60 year old who never did time there.I Shrugged wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 9:34 amSo you're saying you work at Motorola?Cortopassi wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 1:28 pm Man, stressful enough being at a job selling electronic products that have firmware bugs we have to fix.
